🌡️ Heatwave & High Fire Danger Alert for Parts of NSW 🌡️

The extreme heat is set to continue over the coming days, and it’s important to stay safe.

- Heatwaves can be particularly dangerous for older adults, babies, children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and anyone with medical conditions or feeling unwell.
- High fire danger is also expected, so remain cautious and stay informed about any fire warnings in your area.
- Find a cool spot to relax, like your home, a local library, community centre, or shopping mall.
- To keep your home cooler, close windows and draw blinds or curtains early in the day to block out the heat.
- If you have access to fans or air-conditioning, use them to stay comfortable.

Stay safe, stay cool, and stay alert! 💧☀️🔥

Tomorrow we’re going to be at the Moruya markets for our get ready weekend! Our members are more than happy to answer any of your questions about bushfire safety and any other questions you may have about preparing properties for this fire season.

14/09/2024

🔥 Get ready and get rid of your green waste! Drop it off for free between 16 - 29 September.

We’re waiving fees again, just in time for the Rural Fire Service’s annual Get Ready Weekend.

Over two weeks you can drop your green waste at Brou, Moruya or Surf Beach waste facilities. We'll turn it into glorious mulch 😍

Please keep rubbish out of your green waste - the red bin is for that. Contaminated piles are not fun 👎

🌱 We’ll let you know when mulch is ready and available for you to pick up for FREE.

Today, 17 Local Government Areas (LGA) commence their Bush Fire Danger Period. With one area, the Snowy Monaro region beginning the danger period one month earlier than normal due to prevailing dry conditions.

Residents and land holders should ensure they understand the rules around the use of fire. Along with required fire permits, you must also notify your local fire authority and neighbours of your intent to burn at least 24 hours in advance.

Know the risks for your area, have a bush fire survival plan and know what you'll do if threatened by fire. For more information, visit to the website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/BFDP

A reminder that from this Sunday September 1 you must have a permit from the RFS to burn piles of bush fire vegetation in the Rural Fire District of the Bega Valley Shire Council and Eurobodalla LGAs.
Once you have applied ONLINE for your permit an RFS Officer will validate it and you will receive a permit number by email. You must then notify the RFS of your intention to burn at least 24 hours prior, via the RFS website https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com/guardian_csp - failure to do so may result in a fine.
Who else do yo need to notify? Your neighbours need at least 24 hours notice also.
Why do you need to notify? Private landowner burns are shown on our RFS response portal, so if we receive a '000' call to your address and we see that a Pile burn is listed we can consider amending our response to suit the conditions.
What happens if I do not notify? The RFS may issue a fine. Using fire in the landscape to manage bush fire vegetation can be a high risk activity. Every year we respond to numerous escaped pile burns, some of which have no permit or notification. When you apply ONLINE and NOTIFY we can send you a notification if permits are suspended, such as on a HIGH fire danger day.
Please do you bit, CLICK - APPLY - NOTIFY and let's use fire safely in our landscape.

With the windy conditions coming up, please be aware and keep in mind fire safety with any scheduled pile burns.

With the windy conditions coming up, please be aware and keep in mind fire safety with any scheduled pile burns.

With extremely strong winds forecast across NSW over the coming days, it's important landholders and residents monitor their pile burns closely or even consider postponing them.

The winds are expected to arrive this afternoon and continue throughout the weekend, so we are asking everyone to revaluate the use of any outdoor fire.

For more information on safe burning, visit the website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/safeburning
