Excerpt from Mary Coloe's tribute to Fr Frank Moloney.

Last Saturday, November 8th, our dear colleague, teacher, mentor and above all, friend, Frank Moloney passed fully into the eternity life of God. Frank had been seriously ill since December 2024, and while he tried various therapies, in the end, he was ready to surrender into the hands of the God he knew so well. Frank was always a priest of the Salesians of Don Bosco, available for whatever his brothers needed, in schools, as their formator and leader...
..Whether it was in the classroom, or over a glass of wine, Frank carried his great scholarship with ease and humility; able to say, “I don’t know,” to have vigorous discussions, and to be interested in what you were doing. Many who knew and worked with Frank will miss his warm, extravert personality, his ready smile, storytelling and friendship. But we know that Frank is now at peace after a long fulfilling life.

It's been 10 years since Pope Francis released his encyclical, Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home. To celebrate, Garratt Publishing has been hosting a series of Ecology Webinars.

Our Fourth and last webinar, A SYNODAL RESPONSE TO LAUDATO SI’, will be held on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at 7:00 pm (AEDT).

This webinar will explore the synodal process involved in developing a Laudato Si' Action Plan. Proven plans drawing on experiences from the Brisbane Archdiocese, including Brisbane Catholic Education, will be a focus of discussion, as will be how the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission in Brisbane helped with this process.

Hosting the webinar will be Alice Carwardine. Joining Alice is Emma Beach, Justice, Ecology and Peace Project Officer for the Brisbane Archdiocese and Executive Officer for the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission, Brisbane.

Father Francis Moloney SDB.

All at Garratt Publishing are saddened by the passing of Father Francis Moloney SDB.

We simply knew him as Frank, one of our favourite authors to work with. His manuscripts were delivered on time and to the highest standards. His scholarly work was always so precise, his words inspiring, insightful, and true to the Gospels he so dearly loved – particularly, of course, John’s.

Frank’s relationship with Garratt Publishing goes back decades. Back in the early 1970s, he worked and developed a deep friendship with the late Garry Eastman, our founder.

We know too that over many years, many of our friends at Garratt Publishing – you, our readers – deeply respected, enjoyed, and were inspired by Frank’s spiritual and scriptural insights.

Australian Catholic Bishops Conference President, Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB, noted, ‘The death of Father Francis Moloney SDB brings to a close a life of remarkable commitment, fidelity and scholarship’.

Frank chose to work not just with Garratt Publishing but with numerous publishers in many countries. However, without his support over many years, we at Garratt Publishing would not be the company we are today. We owe him an enormous debt of gratitude for his support of our Mission.

We are honoured to have worked with him, to have known him, and loved him.

Frank leaves us with an enduring legacy. One we should all be grateful for.
