#BREAKING:
The first meeting of Wingecarribee Shire Council’s newly elected governing body was held today (Wednesday, 9 October).
The Express’ Michael Sharp was there to report on the proceedings and will publish the details in next week’s paper.
Jesse Fitzpatrick was elected as the mayor. There were two contenders for the position of deputy mayor, the number-two candidate of Jesse's ticket, Erin Foley, and The Greens' Heather Champion.
Heather Champion for deputy mayor was supported by herself, David Kent (Labor) and Nicole Smith (Let’s Get it Right). Sara Moylan abstained from the vote.
Foley won 5-3 and was sworn in as the deputy mayor of Wingecarribee Shire Council.

MAJOR VOTE DUMP IN 24 HOUR PERIOD
Following a massive vote dump on Monday evening, the total above and below the line votes for group-A, Jesse Fitzpatrick - Wingecarribee Shire Council Candidate has climbed 3,489 votes after losing nearly 1,000 votes on Sunday.
The battle between Heather Champion - Greens for Wingecarribee and Labor for Wingecarribee Council 2024 has increased from a 2 vote difference to a 21 vote lead for the Greens.
Sara Moylan -Wingecarribee First has scooped up a near 200 vote lead over Duncan Gair following the 1 vote difference between the candidates on Sunday, however it's still too tight to call any winners for the last few spots on council.

Whilst it is likely that the third candidate on Jesse Fitzpatrick's ticket will succeed, Therese Duffy, it is too soon to tell pending the tally of pre-poll and the distribution of preferences.

Editor Cristian King reveals the latest unprecedented results, last seen 20 years ago, with the Group A ticket headed-up by Jesse Fitzpatrick getting a whopping 42.91% of first-preference votes so far. With the exception of Rachel Russell winning Bundanoon Public School, Jesse Fitzpatrick's ticket has received the highest votes out of all other polling places.
The only votes left to count are Robertson Arts Hall, Welby Hall, pre-poll, and declaration votes.
Whilst it is likely that the number 3 on Jesse's ticket, Therese Duffy will get elected, it is too early to predict, pending the count of pre-poll and the distribution of preferences.
