Feeling so grateful to have celebrated another year around the sun last month, a year where so much has happened.
Firstly I travelled half way around the world with mum to get some form of justice, fully prepared to go to trial but was finally able to have our legal fight come to an end. It was scary, extremely exhausting & tough in so many ways. I felt as though I was trapped between my future & the past as this went on. At the end of the day, we were willing to do whatever was needed of us to fight for dad, Krystal & ourselves. All I can hope for is that we made Krystal & dad proud for not giving up & that they know how amazing the team of people we had around us are.
Then we visited New Zealand, but specifically we visited the town of Whakatane, where everything took place. I got to meet the heroic pilots, the local community, victims & families also affected as we shared in our grief & sorrow, whilst supporting one another. An emotional but much needed step on this journey.
I had the opportunity to travel overseas for work in France, so of course I extended it so that mum & I could enjoy time there as well. Our first holiday overseas together since what should’ve been a family holiday in 2019. It was odd & upsetting not having my dad & sister with us. It left me feeling guilty for enjoying myself at times but I’m so grateful to have made such wonderful memories with my mum.
I also learnt that you shouldn’t knock off an idea before you try it! I can’t believe I assumed that I’d never be able enjoy certain activities ever again because of my fingers being amputated. Yet finally when I agreed to give bowling a go I realised I can still play & damn it was fun. I’ve played bowling twice in the last year & the improvement from one game was awesome to see. Now I’m setting myself some bowling goals because the competitiveness in me needs to get good lol.
I’m very grateful for each day that I get to make new memories & to spend time with those I care & love for. Every day, every year is precious.
