Security sources say the Bondi attackers travelled to the Philippines for what has been described as military style training just weeks before the deadly terror attack that killed 15 people at a Hanukkah celebration.

According to the ABC, the father and son journeyed through the southern Philippines a region long linked to extremist groups before returning to Australia late last month. Authorities are now examining potential ties to an international jihadist network.

The report also confirms one of the gunmen had previously been investigated by ASIO in 2019 over extremist associations but was not on a terrorism watchlist at the time of the attack. The revelations have raised urgent questions about overseas radicalisation travel and domestic security oversight.
