We are thrilled to welcome Lorena Allam to Community Broadcasting Foundation as our new Independent Board director.

Lorena is a multiple Walkley Award-winning journalist, a Gamilaraay and Yuwaalaraay woman, and an Industry Professor of Indigenous media at the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research at the UTS: University of Technology Sydney.

With over four decades of experience across broadcasting, media leadership and investigative journalism - including 30+ years as a journalist and broadcaster at the ABC - Lorena brings deep expertise in truth-telling, Indigenous media, and community broadcasting. She is a long-standing mentor, educator and advocate for diverse voices, and a passionate supporter of community media.

JOY Media stands in solidarity with the victims, families and loved ones of yesterday’s horrifying attack at Bondi Beach.

We’ve witnessed an act of terror unlike anything we are familiar with in Australia.

This attack was targeted at the Jewish community as they were to begin observing Hanukkah.
As a marginalised community ourselves, our hearts go out to those affected. We condemn all violence, and stand with those impacted at this terrible time.

Take time to check in with your friends and loved ones.

"There's a yearning for community spirit"

That was the message Ben Rodgers gave to community broadcasters in the Inner North Community Foundation's area this morning.

We also heard how other charities, non-profits and community groups are connecting with their communities and strategies to secure long term support from within local communities.

Thanks to everyone who came along and shared what opportunities and challenges their organisations are facing and to Ben for leading a great conversation.
