Meet —a vibrant force fusing visual artistry with the underground music scene here in Naarm. Known for her refined, crate-digging style, Bex crafts DJ sets that are a journey through tech house, minimal grooves, and 90s nostalgia.

Beyond the decks, Bex is co-founder of .return_ , challenging the trend of quick sets with all-night-long back-to-back sessions, and , a label celebrating the early UK tech house sound. She also leads .project , a community platform supporting local artists with exclusive fine art prints and downloadable mixes.

With shows on Animalia, Melbourne Deepcast, and her radio program Minimal Mood on Skylab, Bex’s sound has become a staple of Australia’s music scene.

LDG selects 008

Today’s featured album is “Seven Up” by Baby Mammoth. Initially.released on CD in 2001 by Pork Recordings, a pioneering label in the late 90s and early 2000s downtempo, ambient, and trip hop scene, it has now been reissued on vinyl through Musical Charis Records.

The album, a hallmark of downtempo lounge, stays true to the band’s signature funky downtempo style. It incorporates sampled vocals and guitar from Jimmy Scott’s music and explores dub reverb across several tracks.

Today we are starting a new series of IG posts on Lay Down The Groove, where we’ll be selecting one vinyl release each week that represents our sound as artists and DJs.  Kicking off this week with an amazing re-issue of the album “Another Side” by Chicago house legends Fingers Inc. (music group formed in 1985 by Larry Heard, Robert Owens and Ron Wilson).  Originally released in 1988 on Jack Trax, this re-issue by Alleviated Records is packed with 16 tracks over a 3x12” LP full of vocals and organic sounds.  Stay tuned for next week’s record.  LDG,

Catch us this weekend at two of our favourite spots to play at.

On Saturday 20th we’ll be back at .bar for a 4hr vinyl session from 9pm until 1am. Expect Funk, Boogie, Hip Hop, Dub / Reggae, New Wave, Synth Pop and more.

On Sunday 21st we are taking over for the first time this year. We will be opening the night from 6pm until 10pm and then the talented will take control over the decks from 10pm until 1am.

Asha Franco is a musician, producer, and DJ known for her musical versatility, which are enriched by her diverse cultural lineage, encompassing Jewish, African, and Middle Eastern heritage.

Starting with a strong foundation in jazz, she now embraces a wide range of genres from around the world, showcasing her passion for music through her eclectic selections, spanning from jazz fusion to hip-hop, electronic to dancehall, and more.
