Dark-pop solo powerhouse ALTERJOY shares new single 'Better Make A Move', begging the question - is the price of fame and ego worth losing yourself?

Working alongside established producer Chris Lalic (Windwaker), Ben Heidrich, also known as ALTERJOY, takes a step into the dark side of ambition and desire with his fresh new single. The new track explores our addiction to instant gratification and the hunger for attention as we prioritise status and wealth over human connection, particularly in such a social media driven society.

'Better Make A Move' is a rock tune at its core, but delves into elements of EDM, metal, dark pop and hip hop, inspired by artists to the likes of Enter Shikari, BILMURI and Ghostmane. Experimenting with a broad range of genres, ALTERJOY sets out on a unique path of self discovery and sonic exploration.

ALTERJOY is the brainchild of singer songwriter Ben Heidrich, predominantly known for his role as drummer in Adelaide alternative metal outfit, The Daily Chase. The newest single from Sydney synth-rock outfit Grids and Dots ‘Imposter Friends' is out now.

A shimmery track about the perils of putting on your rose coloured glasses time and time again, despite being hurt by the people and the world around you, ‘Imposter Friends’ has “a little melancholy kept inside the sparkling energy and upbeat tempo of the song,” according to the band.

This single – which dips into the pools of 80s new wave and synth-pop – is glittering and synth-soaked, lined with stunning harmonies from vocalists Carmen Minikus and Daniel Handaru. Sonically, it is reminiscent of fellow Australian artists like Brisbane legends The Go-Betweens, as well as more recent icons Last Dinosaurs. The track, as a reminder, arrives alongside a music video that is vibrant, joyful, and wonderfully well-matched to the 80s/new wave synth aspect of the song itself. ARIA Hall of Fame luminaries Crowded House have just released their joyful video 'Oh Hi' – produced by the band with Steven Schram.

'Oh Hi' is a friendly tune with colourful spirals of guitar and a chorus worthy of repeat sing-alongs, as frontman Neil Finn promises: "I won't forget". The tune has a deep connection to Neil's support for So They Can, an international non-profit focused on building schools in remote parts of Kenya and Tanzania. "I was inspired by children and thinking how much we need to let them learn and grow in safety and love," Neil says. "Then we could learn from them. There are so many out of view that can be magnificent if only given a microphone and a lightbulb."

Out today is the newest single from Illawarra indie darling Joe Mungovan ‘Cyclone’, a song about “mass consumption, overstimulation and our society’s blindness and addiction to it”. This arrives alongside the announcement of an East Coast tour, as well as Joe’s upcoming second album, SUGAR, CANDY, LIPS, which will be out into the world on Friday March 15th!

An indie-pop track lined with some honey sweet guitar melodies, ‘Cyclone’ is filled with whirring digital effects whose sounds go far in complementing the thematic nature of the song. The track was recorded between Joe’s home studio on NSW’s South Coast and The Grove Studios (Birds Of Tokyo, Violent Soho, Vera Blue, DMA’s), mixed by Izaac Wilson (The Moving Stills, Chillinit), and mastered by Joe Carra (Genesis Owusu, Courtney Barnett, The Teskey Brothers). New Zealand/South African Punk Rock legends The Transits have just release their highly anticipated debut album ‘The Transits’, alongside a music video for lead single ‘Heartbreak Queen’.

Not only is this newly released debut album a 10-track Indie-Punk, Synth-Pop banger - it’s the result of many hours writing and recording online and across three home studios, two countries and two different time zones - with members Dom Antelme (vocals, bass) and Tyrone Smith (drums) based in Auckland, New Zealand and Ryan Lunn (vocals, guitars, synths) in Durban, South Africa.

Luckily, the trio know each other well, having made music together on and off since forming their first band as teenagers 30 years ago.

“We’ve been close friends for even longer than that, and the album definitely reflects the joy and passion of us being a band again,” says Dom. “It’s been a busy year of figuring things out and refining The Transits sound - a mix of rock, punk, indie and synth-pop - with the overall vibe being energetic.”

After such an impressive first year as a band, resulting in today’s epic self-titled debut album release, The Transits and their growing fanbase are showing no signs of slowing down.
