Content warning: The contents of this post discuss themes around sexual assault.

Do you understand and practise consent? Consent is not only important, but the law.

Victoria Police is committed to the safety of all, and no one should be the victim of violence or assault - in any form.

Affirmative consent puts the responsibility on each person to actively seek consent from the other people involved in any kind of sexual act.

Consent is an agreement between participants to engage in sexual activity. In Victoria, the law says both parties must freely agree to the sexual act for there to be consent. It also outlines circumstances in which someone is automatically considered unable to give consent.

We have dedicated specialist detectives who investigate all forms of sexual offences. To make a report, contact your local police station or Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team.

It is never too late to report an incident.

If you need support, please contact:
📞 1800RESPECT - 1800 737 732
📞 Sexual Assault Crisis Line - 1800 806 292

During WWI, 138 Victoria Police members served in the military forces. Of these members, 17 were killed in action and a further 10 died from wounds suffered.

For those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, we will remember them – today and every day. Lest we forget.

The Victoria Police contingent, along with the Victoria Police Band, will be marching through the city today in honour of the fallen.

Detectives from VIPER Taskforce are appealing for information as part of their investigation into an incident where two people attempted to light a fire at a Docklands gelateria in January.

It’s believed two males forced their way into the Star Crescent business about 5am on Wednesday, 17 January.

After smashing the glass door, the pair poured accelerant from a jerry can on the floor and serving bench then attempted to light the liquid.

Despite a number of attempts, the liquid failed to ignite and the pair ran from the store.

It’s believed they then left the area with a third person in a distinctive gold Hyundai Sonata sedan with registration plates 1TI1EX.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information about those involved.

Detectives are also keen to speak to anyone who has information about the current whereabouts of the gold Hyundai and are asking members of the public to keep a look out for it.

They are releasing an image of it in the hope someone can provide information on the car’s current whereabouts.

Police are treating the incident as targeted, however the exact motivation for the attempted fire remains unclear.

Investigators urge anyone who has further information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

As Superintendent Mark Edwards and Acting Senior Sergeant Trish Merrett know, some things just go better together... like policing and the country.

Originally from Gippsland, Mark spent the first 10 years of his career policing in Melbourne. Now? He’s got more than two decades of country policing under his belt after working across regional Victoria. Although he enjoyed his 10-year stint in Melbourne, regional policing remains Mark’s passion.

For Trish however, it was the allure of a lifestyle change that prompted her family’s seaside relocation. Now working at Lakes Entrance Police Station, Trish relishes the community spirit shown by her locals. When reflecting on her decision to make the switch to regional policing, she says it’s something she ‘wouldn’t change for the world’.

If you’re interested in the country policing experience, did you know recruits have the chance to nominate their preferred regional or rural work location? You’ll graduate from the Academy with the comfort and certainty of knowing where you’ll work.

In the latest edition of Police Life magazine, read why these two country cops opted for a change to country Victoria >> https://issuu.com/policelife/docs/12300_vpo_autumn_winter_24_web

Our Proactive Policing Unit recently hosted an event at Melbourne Zoo, working with Kidsafe Victoria to check child restraints in vehicles. They found that more than 50% of the seats checked required adjustment or re-installation.

Correctly fitted and used child restraints and booster seats play an important part in protecting children from serious injury or death in the event of a crash.

To ensure that the maximum level of protection is provided for your children, it is important that the restraint they are travelling in is:
💺 the right one for their size
💺 correctly fitted to the vehicle
💺 properly adjusted and fastened for the child on every trip
