Great recording session tracking spoken word for Heather Belle Murphy 's first lot of tracks.
Tomorrow editing, then recording the binaural beats and backing music and mixing (spending time tonight working out some ideas in the sketch room).

Seriously?? Again??
The fact that there are such a limited number of notes in our western scale, you do a tempo with any smooth groove etc etc and similarities will occur...... God help all the blues song writers & groove beat producers if this gets up 😒

A decision in the right direction (regardless how small you think it is) https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/songwriters-rejoice-spotify-appeal-fails-to-stop-composers-getting-improved-15-1-streaming-royalty-rate-in-the-us/

Remember my previous thought ....
1. Besides possibilities re gigs, and some upfront sync placements....The business model of income today in our industry has changed to mainly many small streams making a river. Building a catalogue of music placed/on platforms, with libraries & agents etc ...out there getting backend payments, streaming, royalties etc builds a regular ongoing base income stream for you.
2. If your mindset can change so you view Spotify (& maybe some others) as totally free, in fact 'paid for marketing' of your music and you ..getting your music to a whole lot of potential listeners that you could never market too...then the level of how much the royalty stream of income matters becomes a whole lot less important mentally & just is one of those small streams (just, but still important).
Just a thought.

Still great to get thos decision locked in.

Have a good one

Bottom line: The streaming services are going to have to fork over a pile of cash to publishers and songwriters…

Hi all

Just a little note I've dropped my pro membership of dropbox as hardly use it any more and, while trying to whittle down files no longer needed, still over the limit and no longer syncing.

So if sending me stuff by cloud/too big for email attachment - google drive, we transfer or whatever you prefer please.

Cheers

Hi all.
I got an email today from Alicia from Cinematic Composers, the body of which struck me as something I thought was worth sharing ..... because self-sabotaging beliefs plays a big part in restricting people reaching closer to their goals and dreams- and her answer resonated with some of the advice I give people I mentor in the music industry.

So leaving out some of the promo stuff .....I hope this helps you if in that position.

"Hi Cinematic Composers,

Self-sabotaging beliefs.
I know firsthand what self-sabotage means. I always thought…
I don’t have enough talent
I’m not smart enough
I don’t have enough time
I don’t have enough money
I’m not special enough to be able to make an impact in the world
…
And that’s how I was denying day after day, month after month, and year after year my true self and my passion.
The truth is that I was so AFRAID TO FAIL that I didn’t want to even start any real and committed journey towards my passion for writing.
And SUBCONSCIOUSLY, my mind created these self-sabotaging beliefs to support that fear and protect me from feeling the potential pain of failure.
Yes! Subconsciously! We're self-sabotaging ourselves and we don't even realize it's happening!
BUT I know now that everything changes when you TAKE ACTION, even if that action is small.
At least that’s what worked for me back in 2012 when I decided for the first time in my life to put in public my writing by starting a blog and committing to writing once a week.
I did that for 5 years.
My blog became a reference in the world of sustainable fashion and slow lifestyle in Spain, and I discovered along the way who I really was and my unique voice.
And, I understood that the best way to interrupt the hurting pattern of sabotaging yourself is to…
Go ahead and DO IT even if it SCARES YOU A LOT!
I have lots of sentences written down with a permanent marker on my wooden IKEA office desk – so I don’t forget who I really am in those moments when self-sabotaging beliefs lurk around – and one of them says:
“The obstacle is the way”.

I don’t know exactly who said this quote, but it has so much power in it that when I heard it a few years ago, I directly wrote it down to make sure I remembered it.
It’s true. When you’re confronting your obstacles, whether they’re internal or external, big or small, you’re moving towards your goals.

Let's face it. This is a Hero's Journey. It's bright on the other side and you'll get there being a completely new person. But you have to face some fears and obstacles. 😊
Understanding that the OBSTACLES are there FOR YOU and not AGAINST YOU, allows you to advance in your life and your career like never before.
It becomes a HABIT proving your self-sabotaging beliefs wrong…
And the more frequently you do it, the stronger it becomes that SELF-CONFIDENCE muscle that you train day after day.
You become a person that is comfortable doing the uncomfortable and reaching for greatness in your life and career.
Because you understand the power of your fears and how you can work WITH THEM to guide you in this journey of life.
If you are ready to start listening to your FEARS and act towards them, TAKE ACTION."

If that resonates with you, I hope the advice helps. If you dont know what action to take, let us or someone else help you .... so you can get to where you are meant to be in your musical journey.

I put up a post about this a fair while ago.. but I'm still seeing members of the group and getting DMs about it ....so here is my view ....
How can you not be a member of a PRO if you play, stream or pitch for sync, your own music? (own or collab) ...in our case the PRO being APRA-AMCOS

Yes I'm simplifying this discussion mainly for those starting out but ....
I really dont understand why people delay...
To me its a priority action & like assigning ISRC numbers, embedding metadata properly etc- its one of the first things to do from the admin side of your music business.

Question for those who are not a member of a PRO .....How do you think you will collect backend royalties/writers royalties from live playing?, radio?, Spotify? or more importantly, if a piece is placed in a reality TV series (that usually only pay backend)? or in reruns of a movie or show? etc etc especially if any of that is generated in other regions of the world.

In the first instance, its the writer/copyright owners basic entitlement to performing royalties..... .but there is more than that as well (there are 4 royalty entitlements in all...l).

Unlike the 'publishing' side, almost all PROs around the world have agreements in place with each other ...so you only 'need' to be a member of the one (or one of ) in your own country (most countries having only one option).
If you want to join another for certain works that be mainly utilised in another region, that's possible- but that's a seperate discussion & not where most people start.

Put simply- Its an income stream that over time adds up and can build to a substantial reoccuring/leveraged income!
Or put another way - If your music is 'out there' in any way-and you are not a member of a PRO with all your works listed, and set up properly with ISRC codes, metadata etc ..... you are probably missing out on some $$ (maybe cents to start but it will build).

And as an additional benefit APRA like 'most' PROs, provide good industry information and support to their members..

All that in my humble opinion of course 😉

Have a great weekend

(PS If you dont know all about the 4 royalties etc start here https://www.epgdlaw.com/what-are-the-different-types-of-royalties-in-music/ and talk to APRA or google to learn more or ask).
