Opening for Grouch In Dub Album Launch ft Live Band:
Shantaraam & Diamonica! - Fri 15th Nov
Did you know Shantaraam / Tauren / Nawaf Alalawi was the first to add electronic effects to my harmonica? About eight years ago, I went to a house party where a DJ was tearing it up alongside a didgeridoo player, Christian Dimarco. I pulled out a harmonica from my pocket and asked the mystery DJ for the mic: "Sure, bro, do you rap?" "I play harmonica." "Go for it!"
I played a bluesy phrase into the mic, but as I paused to breathe, the harmonica sound kept echoing, swelling and morphing into the pulsing desert beats. That’s when I realised Shantaram had full control of the mic signal, running the microphone through his DJ decks.
That moment changed everything for me. My two separate worlds—blues harmonica and electronic music—collided. I was hooked and began my journey of merging these two styles.
We didn’t exchange names or details that night, and we wouldn’t properly meet until years later when I was playing a set with Ganga Giri at Industrique. We met backstage, and both of us were stoked to finally connect: “OMG, it was you! I’ve been looking for you for years. We need to play together again.”
Now, we get to relive that moment when my world was rocked forever. Shantaram and Diamonica, opening for one of my favourite acts of all time—Grouch in Dub, with a 5-piece band. It’s almost too good to be true.
Join us at Second Story for an unforgettable night with Grouch in Dub - Grouch
