New providers have been appointed to deliver kindergarten in all Council buildings where kindergartens are operating now. The five new providers are specialist, not-for-profit and independent providers of sessional kindergarten as distinct from long day care, and are currently licensed to operate kindergartens in Victoria.

This follows Council’s decision in August last year not to run stand-alone sessional kindergarten services, other than the two Knox Children and Family Centres, and make its buildings available to other providers from 2025.

Details of the new providers for each kindergarten will be made public as soon as leases are finalised. Families who have registered for kindergarten places in 2025 will be notified directly. This is likely to be in August 2024.

Final confirmation of the new providers is subject to Department of Education approval for each site.

There will be no changes to kindergarten for families enrolled this year.

Detailsfor 2025 are available at:

It's almost council election time!

Knox residents and ratepayers will vote in our four-yearly council elections on 26 October.

Knox has nine wards with one councillor to be elected in each ward to represent our community.

Voting is by post and all enrolled voters will receive a ballot pack from the Victorian Electoral Commission, which manages the elections. Voting is compulsory for those on the council or state roll.

Those on the state roll will automatically be enrolled to vote in the council elections. If you need to check or update your state enrolment details, visit vec.vic.gov.au/enrolment.

People who own property in Knox but live elsewhere need to apply online to Council if they want to vote.

Ratepayers who are not Australian citizens, those who pay rates on a property they occupy but don’t own, and a director or secretary of a corporation that pays rates can also apply to vote.

It is not compulsory for these categories of voters to apply to be on the roll but if you do apply it is compulsory to vote.

The Knox Inclusive Basketball League is born after Interchange Outer East received over $9,000 council funding to deliver the competition in partnership with Knox Basketball. It’s played on Monday nights at the recently expanded State Basketball Centre in Wantirna South.

About 28,000 or 17% of Knox residents live with disability.

Knox Basketball CEO Grant Harrison says the centre’s significant expansion with 12 new indoor courts had provided more opportunities for local competitions.

Ten Ruby Gumnut Goddesses recently attended an event at Coombe Yarra Valley, the former home of the late Dame Nellie Melba. They had a lovely morning tea with scones, cream and yummy jam, as well as enjoying the history of the homestead and the beautiful gardens.

The Victorian Government is proposing changes to household recycling and waste services, including:

- a fourth glass-only recycling bin

- standardised lists of accepted items for each bin to help reduce contamination.

- kerbside collection of soft plastics.

- plans on future use of compostable food and garden caddy liners.

This year it marks the 20th anniversary of the the Rotary Club of Rowville Lysterfield. The list of projects completed over the years is extensive but it is the individual stories that make an impact.

One example is the story of the young girl, Madline, living on Kiriwina Island off the coast of PNG with badly deformed club feet. She was unable to stand or walk. With assistance from the Rotary Club, she was flown to a mainland hospital and have surgery on her feet, returning home able to walk for the first time.

Closer to home, over the years the Club members have contributed muffins on a fortnightly basis to Foothills Community Care, to be sent home with their food packs for people in need. For several years Club members assembled beautiful hampers which were donated to Foothills at Christmas time and which were received with great appreciation by families who were struggling to make Christmas a special time for their children.

If you would like to make a difference in the lives of others and make some friends, ring President Jenny Moran on 0404 893 870 for more information.

Members of the Rowville Lysterfield Probus Club had a wonderful trip up to Lake Mungo, Bendigo, Swan Hill and Mildura recently.

Everyone had a ‘ball’, as they say, and well looked after by their guide Sue from Trade Travel, with full breakfasts every morning, many lunches and most dinners.

The group went up as far as Lake Mungo – where they stayed in some of their well-appointed cabins adjacent to their lovely lodge. One of our members said the best barramundi he has ever eaten was served to him at dinner that night.

Rowville Seniors Club recently held its feature events, Memorial Day. This is a day they conduct a mini round robin bowls tournament while focussing on members past who may be gone but not forgotten.

26 bowlers were put into randomly selected teams to vie for the winners’ medal and their names inscribed on our perpetual trophy.

The first game resulted in some interesting scores and larger than expected margins. The second game saw the competition even out resulting in the winners getting over the line by a narrow margin. Winning skip Allen has won two years in a row.

Special thanks to Sandra for organising score sheets, medals and afternoon tea.

Knox could have 47,000 new homes by 2051 under statewide housing targets set by the state government. There are currently about 63,000 homes in Knox.

Knox Mayor, Councillor Jude Dwight said Council is currently developing our own housing strategy that sets out our plan for managing housing growth and development to respond to the current and future housing needs of our community.

The Department of Transport and Planning has released draft targets for all of Victoria’s 79 councils on where future homes should be built. The targets form part of the government’s plan for Victoria to boost housing stock by 2.24 million homes by 2051 across the state.

Knox residents can have their say on the government’s targets until the end of August at"
