Stay Safe During the Heatwave! 🌞

As we continue through the summer, it’s important to stay prepared for the heat and take steps to protect yourself and your health. Heat can lead to illnesses like heat cramps, exhaustion, and heatstroke, but with a little preparation, you can avoid these risks.

Here are a few simple tips from Knox Council to help you stay safe:

💧 Stock Up on Water
Dehydration is a major cause of heat-related illness. Keep bottles of water stocked in your fridge and always take a bottle with you when leaving the house.

🥫 Buy Non-Perishable Foods
Stock up on non-perishable foods like canned beans, vegetables, fruit, rice, oats, and soups. Not only will it help you avoid going out in the heat, but it also reduces food waste!

🌀 Check Your Home Accessibility
Make sure you have a working fan or air conditioner. If not, use drapes or sheets to block out the heat from your windows and keep cool inside.

🏖️ Avoid Outdoor Activities
Try to minimize outdoor time during the hottest parts of the day. If you do go outside, seek shade and protect yourself with sunscreen and a hat. Consider rescheduling outdoor plans for cooler times of day.

⚡ Prepare for Power Outages
Heatwaves can lead to power outages. Prepare a basic kit with essential items like a first aid kit, medications, torch, portable charger, and emergency supplies for babies and young children.

Let’s all take care of ourselves and check in on our loved ones during these hot days. Stay hydrated, stay cool, and be safe!

It’s a lovely spot with 16 exercise stations that help with balance, strength, flexibility, and coordination – and the best part is, it’s all outdoors and free to use every day.

Plus, there are instructions at each station, and if you need more guidance, you can use the My ENJOY Health app for video demos of each exercise.

You’ll find it at:
📍 Carrington Park

Introducing the Ferntree Gully Village Community Pantry 🌱

The Ferntree Gully Village Community Pantry, located behind the Hills Church Op Shop at 18 Alpine Street, is now open to provide free food and personal items to local residents, helping ease the pressure of rising living costs.

Opening hours:
Monday–Friday: 10am–4pm
Saturday: 9.30am–1pm

Thanks to funding from the Knox Empowering Communities Program, the pantry is part of a 16-month outreach initiative to strengthen our community and provide immediate relief.

Fire Danger Period Starts tomorrow, 23 December – Be Prepared! 🚨

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) has declared a Fire Danger Period for Knox starting Monday, 23 December. This means that fire restrictions will be in place, including no barbeques, campfires, or burning off. Please check the CFA website for more details on restricted activities.

If you have a Permit to Burn, it will no longer be valid after 1am on Monday, 23 December, so make sure to take care of any burning before then. Once the Fire Danger Period ends, you can apply for a new permit.

Bushfire Preparedness Tips:
- Keep grass trimmed to under 10cm
- Clear gutters of leaves and debris
- Trim branches overhanging buildings
- Remove dry grass, leaves, twigs, and loose bark
- Store flammable liquids and woodpiles away from your house

Stay safe by preparing your property now. It’s a good idea to prepare an emergency plan and kit for your family, so everyone knows what to do in case of an emergency.

For more info, visit the CFA website.
