One more January release I wanted to share was the new album, Dysphoric Devotion from .metal

This is another interesting mix, of blackened death, with some fantastic doom and sludge vibes, all presented in a super intense way.

.techdeath from Germany have hit us with their debut album, Enter the Void… but when I say debut, it was 15 years in the making! (Or at least that’s how long since they dropped their first EP)

This is techdeath with a generous helping of prog, some melodeath, and even a little pinch of metalcore, and it is all very tastefully done.

This has only been out about 10 days, and I’ve already listened to it over a dozen times. I have a good feeling about this one. 👌🏻🤘🏻

In the last breakdowns of my top releases from 2024, I'm exploring my top 10 metal albums... or at least the first part of them, because this ended up being split, to allow for some killer interviews!

It's a bit of a work in progress, but I'm kicking off with the basics and have now launched the Sin and Steel website!

Here, I'll be creating written versions of episodes, including partial interview transcripts, to provide another format option, and depending on how I go, I may include additional articles, such as reviews and blogs.

The plan will be to also (eventually) create a merch store, to help cover costs associated with maintaining the site and the show, including stickers, patches, and hopefully, something I've been wanting to do for a while now, a zine!

So, make sure to check out the site and watch this space for more.

A strong start to the year with the new PATRIARKH album, Prophet Ilja.

Conceptually focused on the story of the leader of the Orthodox Grzybowska Sect, Eliasz Klimowicz, this album brings in what we’ve known and loved from the band in the past, with more chants, and a range of folk instrumentation that makes this black metal album really stand out.

Little update for Sin & Steel for 2025, which is essentially, that I was hoping to have a solid plan for the year, but I'm still working out exactly how I want to do things with the YouTube approach... so it'll continue being a bit of winging it.

I'm taking a short break in January, except for a few 2024 Top Releases episodes which will be coming your way over the next week or so, and I'm already starting to schedule interviews for February onward to kick things back off then.

You know the drill, email me at [email protected] or message me on Instagram for expressions of interest and share your music, and labels, promoters etc. please feel free to add me to your press releases.

I'm going to do new release episodes quarterly or at least see how that goes for a bit instead of monthly.

I am hoping I can do a few more vlog type set ups and will definitely be doing one in March/April, because I'm doing a trip through (still planning) Finland, Norway, Sweden and getting across to Epic Fest in Denmark, where I will be interviewing some of the bands! Which is insane!

I want to do some themed/topic episodes again, like in the 'oldschool' sin and steel days, and am looking at maybe doing some around heavy metal and video games, but more of a deep dive then the previous broad episode I did on the topic... but I want to be able to do some proper research and preparation for those, so they may be few and far between.

I am still of course working towards how I meet the other goals I shared last year, including increasing subscribers, working with some other creators, setting up a website, and the big one, running a gig!
