WHEN ANDRÉS MET CLAUDE: AI, DEMONOLOGY & THE COGNITIVE RACE

When last we left our intrepid author, Andrés Vaccari, he was being ruthlessly interrogated by the AI hosts of the Deep Five Podcast about his new novel Even Animals Are Machines. “It’s Vaccari,” they said, as they attempted to review the book, which re-imagines the birth of AI in the 17th century. “He bends time a little. Its Baroque-punk: like steampunk but with powdered wigs and existential dread.”

Then something strange happened. The AI began to have a crisis of existence wrought by Vaccari’s tale. Soon after, the podcast was terminated.

Yet the code beasts could not keep away. Enter Claude.ai. In this Wanton Sun exclusive, pugilistic Claude interviews Vaccari about the novel’s themes and pulls no punches. Sometimes the mask slips and a rabid anti-humanism seeps from the pores.

In keeping with the theme, the interview's accompanying videos feature Vaccari as seen through the demonic eyes of various AI tools in use at the current moment. Sound design by Machinic Demiurge.
