I'll let you in on a secret. When I first jumped into Social Media marketing for a B2B company, I promoted some lies.

Well, half-truths maybe. I loved the mission of the business, the owners, and the people I worked with. So this made me very willing to say awesome things about the brand all the time on social media, even things I didn't fully know were true or not.

Every product they released, I would jump on a FB live and talk about how AWESOME it was, how we were #1 in Australia, had the highest quality control, assumed it would save heaps time for our customers, help them earn MORE money, etc. But I didn't really know what I was talking about. I just wanted to help sell our products and services because I knew that most of the money the company made would be pumped into charities and goodwill and I loved that. So while I genuinely knew it was a trusted company, I hadn't taken full responsibility for my job to make sure that the information that I was putting out was completely true.

This still didn't really make it okay though. And to be honest, the big 'OMG' generic, click-bait promises started to wear out, because I didn't KNOW the product and benefits that well and what the audience/customers needed in the industry for us to fulfil.

Looking back, it probably would have been more enjoyable and maybe more successful to niche down and find out for myself what the key points were made the company stand out in the industry, and pump that out THAT message, rather than a high volume of vague statements that may or may not be entirely true.

Whenever I onboard a client, most of them get extremely apologetic and warn me that their socials are ๐Ÿ’ฉ-house and that they have no idea what they've been doing.

It's some hectic modern times we're flying into hey? There's pros and cons of all things new and shiny, especially for business owners.

You can promote your business to LOADS of people on the internet (which is where most people hang out these days)...FOR FREE! Ba-bye expensive radio & tv ads ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ

We have AI that can write copy, edit your videos, write up proposals and practically do your job for you!

So there's lots of cool things that can happen in the world, but the question is how does the business owner USE these tools (minus the pickles) successfully while also running a full fledged business AND have a life..???

You. Don't. Have. To. Do. It. All.

That's right. You actually DON'T have to figure out everything on your own.

Sure, there's budgets and maybe you've been burned before, but when you can put in a little bit of effort and brain power to invest in receiving HELP, this will give you back the most valuable thing on Earth...TIME!!!! โฐ

We ask soooo many questions a day about our business.
Is this video good or boring?
Is our logo clever?
Why aren't people clicking onto our website?
Are our customers more active on Instagram or Linked In?

And usually you're asking these in hopes that an answer appears.
But asking your imagination friend Freddie G, may have worked when you were 9 years old, but probably not now. You need actual answers. Real-life, blunt, awesome answers.

It's time to survey ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ it ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ up! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Surveys can be as simple and thorough as you'd like them to be.

Post a poll on your socials, email your 10 regular customers/clients with 3-5 questions, make an easy survey on Survey Monkey for free, have something printed out or ready as a PDF form to give to a customer/client after their service with you.

If you don't know the answer to something about YOUR customers or clients, ASK THEM ๐Ÿ’œ

Most people like to talk, so usually you'll find they're more than willing to give their feedback AND it shows that you actually care about what they think ๐Ÿ˜‰

And while you might not physically feel the same kind of pain stepping on a lego block (if you know, you know ๐Ÿ˜…), having zero strategy is like driving a car with a blindfold on, who knows where you'll end up?!

One thing you can implement right away in creating a strategy is knowing and writing down a simple goal. Whether it be how many sales you'd like to start doing a week, how many enquiries you get, etc. Just write it down.

Then think with what would be needed on your behalf to create that reality.

Comparing ourselves online to each other is a crime we're all guilty of... ๐Ÿฆนโ€โ™€๏ธ
And I call it a crime because as much as we try and justify it, it simply does us no good.
It serves no purpose other than to judge ourselves personally, our business growth and our content OR judge someone else's.

If you've only just decided to jump on the marketing train and really put you and your business out there, then
1. CONGRATS ๐Ÿฅณ
and 2. Don't sweat the small things ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Marketing is the make up of small things put out consistently, added up over time to bring your business results. This might be in the form of brand recognition, sales, enquiries and collaborations.

So don't expect things to change dramatically soon, but also don't expect they won't change dramatically in the future either!

I dislike the word 'patience' very much, so I won't recommend that, BUT just trust in the process and see what's incrementally working while you keep busy. Overtime you'll see changes ๐Ÿ˜‰

Having the vital points already answered in your Social Media bio's cuts out the back and forth "where are you located?", "do you offer X,Y,Z?" or them simple not knowing where to contact you and so swipe to a competitor with more information available.

At the start of my Marketing journey, this was a PRACTICE for me ๐Ÿ˜…

If I'm interested in something, I could talk to the cows come home and want to explain every detail. However in my experience, the most successful marketing is done with as little words as possible.

People have busy lives, so the faster we can get to the point in a creative manner that can hold their attention, the faster they can make a viewpoint on how they feel about our brand. Do they relate to the content? Do they need our product or service in the first place? Will they benefit from working with our brand at all?

I'm still working on it myself tbh, but I've come a loooong way...unless you mention the subject of sleep or space, then R.I.P in that conversation with me ๐Ÿชฆ๐Ÿช

The less words you can use to describe what it is you do, the further it will reach.

The word 'STRATEGY' seems to either rub people the wrong way OR (if you're deep into Marketing), makes you scream it to the rooftops. And I think it's because there's a lack of understanding of the actual word itself and what it means in this day and age of marketing.

Oxford Definition: 'A plan of action designed to achieve a long-term or overall aim.'

The word itself is derived from the Greek word โ€œstrategosโ€; stratus (meaning army) and โ€œagoโ€ (meaning leading/moving).

After being in the marketing world for almost 7 years now, and seeing the growth that Marketing causes for a business and brand, strategy has never been MORE important. So I'm implementing that more than ever with my clients and especially in my new services coming soon ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€

You'd think that we'd be desensitised to the fear of posting about our business by now since Social Media is very much part of our day-to-day lifestyle.

But yet, there's still this intense hesitation and doubt on every piece of content we are planning to post.

Listening to the inner dialogue of "no one cares about this", "this looks like ๐Ÿ’ฉ", "_____ will probably think I'm lame", "I don't want to be annoying", blah, blah, blah...everyone has a similar form of this dialogue. Let's call this dialogue Becky. She's a bit of a cow and doesn't plan on helping you succeed at all. Zilch.

Rather than having to go on a 6 month sabbatical to 'handle' this Becky, and replace her with a kinder, less-of-a-cow inner dialogue, probably called Chelsea. Just post the content.

Don't think about it if it's this or if it's that.
Just post the content.

Don't worry about if it doesn't bring in sales, no one likes or comments on it.

Marketing is important for running any kind of business. Your business needs to be known in order for people to be interested and purchase from you.

And unless you're keen on spending hours doing old-school door knocking to promote ๐Ÿšช(you do you), you're probably going to want to start taking advantage of Social Media.

FAQ posts hit the sweet spot by offering quick answers to burning questions and what's best is that it's effective and efficient because you don't have to think up any interesting topic. โฐโœ… The things that your customers/audience ask the most will probably be the same or similar questions that others have so it's worth promoting it!

Eg. How fast is shipping/delivery of service?
How long does it take to see results?
What are the best options based on certain people?

The more information someone is getting from you, the more certain they will be about buying from you...or not ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
