'Some artists argue that despite doing everything possible to feel as an integral part of this culture, they struggle to feel welcomed, accepted, valued or recognised. This seems a more political issue than a cultural one. Regardless of years spent here, questions like "why you left your country?" persist.'

Silvia Rojas spoke with Liliana E. Correa about identity, belonging, creativity, and her children's book La nena mágica.

Puentes Review: Meet the team ✏️🗒

Fernanda Fain-Binda is our proofreader & voice of reason.

Our editor Gabriella Munoz spoke with Fernanda about writing, reading, WhatsApp and swapping places with someone for a day.

Fernanda's advice to all writers: 'Keep on writing. I hear it a lot, but it’s the hardest thing to do because rejection is part of this industry.

I do believe the writing improves if you’re serious and keep on trying. You can’t make your own luck if you’re not writing.'

“Growing up, the country was an idea in my head, but not the one I knew when I went there.” (Suzanne Hermanoczki)

Belonging, memory and nostalgia are three subjects present in Hermanoczki’s writing. In her story ‘Mi casa (no) es su casa // Writing about my house in someone else’s home,’ published in Puentes Review 2, she explores some of these issues and tells us about her time in Hong Kong and how she started writing.

Puentes speaks with musician, poet and actor Christian Ravello - Musician/Actor/Poet/Author about growing up Latin American in Australia, rock en español and the If I Could book series.

'When I went to the Chile for the first time, dad bought me a guitar.

This was when there were bands like Soda Stereo, Los Pericos, Los Tres and so many of other incredible bands.

It was a new world. It opened up my mind to the rock Latino music scene.'

Read our conversation here: https://puentesreview.com/2023/03/23/interview-with-christian-ravello/

About four years ago, I did a TV, radio and song writing course in Los Angeles. There, one of the most important questions they asked me was: ‘Who would you be without music?’ To be honest, the question frustrated me because I didn’t have an answer.

'Millie is a girl who can do anything. She is not a princess who stays quiet, she can be anything.
Although we believe gender equity is advanced, it is not like that. I still hear children saying ‘this is not for boys’ or ‘this is not for girls’ and it shouldn’t continue to be like this. Millie is not a story for girls, it is a story about a girl.'

Children's book author Erika Deery, who wrote the Millie book series Millie's World and Yo soy mexican_ in conversation with Puentes Review: https://puentesreview.com/2022/11/14/erikedeery/
