๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Indian-style ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ ๐Ÿฅ” Potato (Aloo) Curry ๐Ÿฅ”

Our landlords offered us a bucketload of delicious chicken biryani yesterday.

It got me thinking last night: What gravy-based side dish could I make to complement the biryani...?

So I raided our pantry (as usual, no wastage in this household ๐Ÿ’ช) and found potatoes, onions, a bottle of pasta sauce.

Added in a bunch of aromatics and boom shakalaka - My concoction of pantry essentials to complement the chicken biryani is complete!

We rate this an 8/10, definitely going into our regular rotation of meals now! ๐Ÿ™Œ ๐Ÿ˜‹

Sandy came home feeling exhausted from a long day at work. He said, "I'm going to rest for a bit. Can I leave dinner prep to you tonight?"

Wanting to clear our fridge while attempting something new, I decided to make this quick ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ Chinese-style ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ 30-minute chilli garlic prawn dish, served atop a bed of rice.

Easy, fast, and tasty too! Perfect for hump days and busy bees alike.

A creative idea turned into reality - Mango sago pudding with pandan palm sugar and vanilla-infused coconut milk.

Made my first ever real dessert today.

A few decisions led me here. Making Thai Green Curry and not knowing what to do with the leftover coconut milk before it goes bad. Then we found some mangoes on their last legs at the market and I decided this may be a fun opportunity. With the frozen pandan in our freezer as well, we barely needed to buy anything!

After finishing the dish and tasting it, memories flooded back of my childhood. When my mum used to make this for us on special occasions. I took it for granted how much work it was for her - especially with how annoying sago is to boil!

This was definitely a memorable and fun experiment.

The best thing about making your own falafels? Make them once, freeze them, and you have falafel for months.

Tonight's dinner - a quick falafel wrap with frozen falafel we made last month, some salad greens, and Lebanese bread. Topped with pickled jalapeรฑos, bbq sauce, sriracha sauce and garlic aioli.

Weekends are an opportunity for creativity and experimentation!

Today was our first time cooking an African dish (if you don't count our attempts at cooking stuff off the Nando's menu). As part of its preparation, we learned how to make an aromatic spice blend called Berbere. We like a bit of heat in our meals - And boy, this spice blend did not disappoint ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

The finished dish:
Doro Wat (Spicy Chicken Stew) from Ethiopia, typically served alongside some Injera (fermented sour flatbread)!

๐Ÿ’ก We've started coming up with a hack to minimise food wastage and clear out any unused ingredients from our fridge.

So whenever we go through a busy week and things start piling up in the fridge from our weekly grocery "top up" runs, making quick and easy broth-based dishes became a sure fire way to clear our fridge before things start to go bad.

For tonight's dinner, we used store-bought tom yum paste and took out whatever proteins and veggies we had remaining in our fridge:
- A little bit of chicken,
- A handful of prawn,
- Some chopped cabbage,
- A small bowl of frozen green beans,
- 2 cups of leftover chicken broth, and
- Half a packet of flat rice noodles;

Then, we followed the recipe as displayed on the tom yum paste bottle;

Et voila - 15 minutes later, you get to enjoy at least 6 serves of delicious Thai-style tom yum, you've managed to prevent food wastage, you've made room for your next grocery run, and Bob's your uncle.

โฉ Swipe to see which brand of tom yum paste we tried this time. Pretty tangy and tasty, not spicy at all, great flavour profile. The taste and scent of keffir lime leaves shone through as we cooked this dish. Would make this again.

Let us know if you have a favourite tom yum paste brand that you'd recommend trying out!

After our trail hike up Mount Dandenong this morning, our friends brought us to today and wow, were we amazed at the range and freshness of their produce made available at such attractive prices too!

Happy to have discovered this place. :)

3 and a half months ago, we landed in Melbourne (first time for Sandy) and desperately needed WiFi to call an Uber after getting off the Skybus.

Thinking like Malaysians, we checked available WiFi networks and saw that had a connection. So we went ahead and bought a donut - the first thing that Sandy has ever eaten in Melbourne - and asked for their WiFi password. That's when we were told that the WiFi was set up for their POS ordering system and was not for public use.

We were unemployed and keeping a close eye on our budget so it wasn't ideal to be spending $8 on a donut and coke combo (thankfully, the donut was delicious!).

Sandy then made it his goal to buy a 6-piece tray of Daniel's Donuts for Alia once he got a job and his first paycheck comes in.

Today, Sandy delivered.
