VALE legendary NCAA coach, Bob 'The General' Knight.

Knight coached wins in 902 NCAA Division 1 men's basketball games, a record at the time of his retirement, and currently sits fifth all-time. Knight was the head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers from 1971 to 2000. He also coached the Texas Tech Red Raiders (2001–2008) and Army Black Knights (1965–1971).

He led the Black Knights to four post-season tournament appearances in six seasons, winning two-thirds of his games along the way.

After taking the job at Indiana, they went to three NCAA championships, one National Invitation Tournament (NIT) championship, and 11 Big Ten Conference championships. His 1975–76 team went undefeated during the season and won the 1976 NCAA tournament.

He was awarded National Coach of the Year honours four times and Big Ten Coach of the Year honours eight times.

In 1984, he coached the U.S. men's Olympic team to a gold medal, becoming one of only three basketball coaches to win an NCAA title, NIT title, and an Olympic gold medal.

Knight was one of college basketball's most successful and innovative coaches, having popularized the motion offense.

Thanks General - your antics on court inspired many a young and upcoming coach (including the writer) although I did attract the attention of a couple of referee coaches over the time😉

Congratulations to Tony Moclair and the team at 3AW Australia Overnight for 7 wonderful years.

Tony is moving to afternoons from next week and we eagerly await his replacement for the midnight to 5:30am weeknight shift.

I've always been a follower of 3AW and particularly the overnight program, going back 40 years to being an official "Overnighter" with the late, great, Keith McGowan.

Since my accident a couple of years ago, I do not sleep regularly anymore this rely on 3AW Australia Overnight to get me through the wee small hours when awake with entertainment, news and company.

3AW legend, Neil Mitchell, has announced he will step down from his top rating morning program after 34 years.

Love him or not, no one can deny Mitchell's years of getting the news stories and being a champion of those less fortunate, given his power in getting answers to questions that no one else would ask!

Damaging winds persisting through today.

Weather Situation: A vigorous west to northwesterly flow stream over Victoria as a low passes to the south of the State.

DAMAGING WINDS from the west to northwest averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peaks gusts of 90 to 100 km/h are likely
near the coast over southwest Victoria, and elevated terrain over the Central Ranges, Grampians, and Alpine peaks in
the northeast. BLIZZARD conditions are also forecast for Alpine areas during Saturday.

Strong winds averaging 45 to 55 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of 90 to 100 km/h are possible over remaining
parts of the warning area, including in the Melbourne area. These conditions are most likely to be associated with shower
and thunderstorm activity.

Conditions are expected to ease from the west late today, although eastern parts of the state including the Alpine areas may continue to experience hazardous conditions into Sunday morning.

A separate Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING SURF is current for parts of the coastline in the South West and
West Gippsland districts. Refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/warnings/

Locations which may be affected include Horsham, Warrnambool, Maryborough, Ballarat, Geelong and Melbourne.

Falls Creek 93 km/h

The Victoria State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible.
* Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.
* Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet.
* Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Stay indoors and away from windows.
* If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways.
* Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live.
* Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. Heavy rainfall may also increase the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
* Stay informed: Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website/app/hotline.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Saturday.

It's a slow news day when we are reporting on the British Prime Minister's outrage over the Bairstow stumping. Legal but not fair, or in the spirit of the game?

Let's go back to the 1983 America's Cup final. There's really nothing in it between Australia II and Liberty. But Aussie skipper Bertrand senses some wind and tacks accordingly. Liberty remains on course.

What should Bertrand have done? Yelled off the bow to Dennis Conner saying "Hey mate, there's wind over here!"

No way. Pffft to the establishment and suck it up. We remember Bodyline.
