From Georges to The George.

This heritage-listed building has been bringing people together since 1884. For 115 years, it was home to Georges department store, a Melbourne institution where generations of Melburnians shopped, met, and made memories along Collins Street.

The store closed in 1995, but the building’s story continued. After various chapters, we opened as The George on Collins in 2017, and for the past eight years, we’ve been writing new chapters in this iconic space.

Same historic walls. Same beautiful bones. But now, instead of browsing fashion, people gather here for celebrations, business lunches, weekend brunches, late nights, and all the moments in between.

We’ve had the privilege of being custodians of over a century of Melbourne history. And every night for the past eight years, we’ve been honoured to continue its legacy.

Here’s to respecting where we’ve been whilst creating where we’re going. 🏛️✨
