The track is underscored by booming 80s soundscapes and dynamic percussion. Just when things couldn’t get spicier, LION turns up the heat with their gravel vocal delivery, while Dope Saint Jude adds the extra flavour in her verse, which is bold, unapologetic, and subversive.

“LION’s production made it easy to jam on and create fun music,” explains Saint Jude, when describing what made the collaboration work, but was sure to add “we are also committed to creating spaces where our diverse experiences are acknowledged and our identities are honoured … Through music and advocacy, we strive to inspire change and foster a sense of belonging and pride within our community.”
On the creative process for “Mitmita”, LION adds that “MitMita is my Ethiopian Mother’s go-to seasoning, so having it as the focal point of this song feels connective as we are here to spice things up by celebrating and supporting members of our Queer BIPOC global community, who too often experience trauma related to the lack of capacity to proudly present their identity.”

“In my case, being queer is often deemed as ‘un-African’, which is a major source of identity conflict for myself and many others I am aware of,” Lion explains. “These discriminatory statements are often made in the name of religion, so us queer folk are referred to as ‘the devil.’.. While LÂLKA is renowned for boundary-pushing electronic music, the artist's latest energetic track and its video titled ‘Yves Klein’ take things a step further still with her first single of her upcoming Willfire EP.
The title namesake is cleverly referenced in the track lyrics as a synonymous adjective to loneliness, with the accent hue of blue which the pioneering French artist Yves Klein was known for, being used in the corresponding visualiser to represent loneliness:

The electronic dance track leans heavily into the bass and trap genres and features LÂLKA’s signature synth hooks and high-octane production, whilst paying homage to ethnic influences.
“I wanted to incorporate hints of my Chinese and Bidayuh heritage into the music without it being blatantly cliche,” the multi-instrumentalist explains. “ The tuning system of the ethnic instruments was definitely an interesting challenge to incorporate into a dubstep/trap track like Yves Klein.”

*STOP THE PRESS!* MAREYA announces the birth of her electrifying, sax-infused dance track with artist/producer partner, YOUNIQUE, upon becoming an officially signed artist to Tomboi Records.
Newly signed artist, MAREYA, has infused her soulful lyrics with some sassy saxophone by Keidan Morely into the electrifying beats of YOUNIQUE to produce their collaborative new single: ‘Need You Now.’
The song is due to drop on the 26th of June, but already audiences who are getting a glimpse at live shows are scrambling for the pre-save link.
“It’s awesome to witness how instantly moved audiences are to vibe with this track as well as to share this with my partner and friend who collaborated on its development,” says MAREYA.
“The work is quite unique with the lyrics exposing a personal vulnerability insofar as they seek to return to a deeper sense of self after a depressive episode caused a disconnect with that,” she explains. “But then it’s quite particular in how the minor key and the beats juxtapose this yearning with such resolution and strength … all toward a climax which is released via an epic saxophone solo of pent up emotions!”
Indeed, when YOUNIQUE started collaborating on the song and heard the riff/hook that Mareya was developing, he couldn’t resist calling on local Aussie sax-star, Keidan Morely. The instrumentalist said it was thrilling to work with the song creators as he could “unleash” his creativity via the provision of quality track lines by his favourite instrument.
“I have always wanted to make a record that has HUGE sax appeal, and this one fulfilled that craving,” said Younique. “I’ve also been a producer/ engineer for multiple artists which is for their sound and their music so it was brilliant to be able to represent my own sound on this track, alongside my partner and to creatively direct the whole, super fun process to achieve what is now ‘our’ own sound.”
