John Dixon (1929-2015) was an Australian comic and comic strip artist, best known for his newspaper feature "Air Hawk and the Flying Doctor". The weekly Sunday strip was seen in most Australian capital city newspapers from 1959 to 1980. The daily version ran from 1963 to 1986, when John decided to move to the USA. There, he worked for some American publishers ("Eternal Warrior" for Valiant, "Secret Agent Corrigan" for King Features, among other work).
I have begun publishing the "Air Hawk" adventures in comic-book format. They are going to appear in sequence, beginning with the first daily adventure from 1963. The first issue has already been published (featuring adventures #1 and #2), the second is soon due to arrive from the printer (with adventures #3, #4, and #5 featured within), and I am currently working on the third issue (adventures #6, #7, and #8). I am working with the full permission and cooperation of John's family, and (wherever possible) the artwork reproductions of these comics will come from John's original art.
For comic historians, and people passionate about Australian comic history, or for those who simply like fast-paced action and adventures, these are comics not to be missed! If you've never heard of John Dixon, or never read an "Air Hawk" story, feel free to check out the comments section below. If you're interested in obtaining back issue copies of the comics published to date (Issues one and two), I'll be making those available together in the very near future, and will announce how you can obtain them on my personal page shortly. Issue three is going to be the first internationally-released comic (via Diamond), so ask your local comic shop to stock it when the solicitations go out for orders in the coming months ahead!
