The use of the term Ai in photo post production may require another catchphrase.

In many photo awards the T&Cs for entry state that photos created with Ai will not be accepted. My first question is, how would you know just by looking at an image that it is created by Ai? Some of the software currently available is mind boggling where you can instruct the software to create an image via your instructions.

Using advanced algorithms and machine learning through neural channels Ai can automatically analyze images and apply a wide range of edits, such as adjusting exposure and white balance, enhancing colors, retouching portraits, removing backgrounds, and even selecting the best images from a batch.

I am sure that many of you, like me, have used Photoshop for twenty years. Sometimes I click on auto and it does a perfect job, other times it mangles the photo, then I manually adjust my exposure, highlights, contrast etc using the sliders. These are considered tools for enhancement. The neural learning remembers your preferences over time to emulate your work flow, smart sophisticated technology utilised by software providers such as Retouch4me. The lines are blurred between Ai and image enhancement.
Faces, eyes, skin, teeth, fabrics and backdrop retouching plus color matching can now be done automatically. Photoshop Plug-In and Standalone software for Windows & MacOS.

Retouch4me has a dozen different plugins for post production and is based on neural networks.

These tools let you spend more time behind the lens and less time on tedious retouching. With just one click, your entire photoshoot is retouched.

FREE - try the software with 20 photos in their cloud before you buy.

One-time purchase of a perpetual license with free updates.

"I don’t have to explain the importance of patience, persistence and determination to a landscape photographer. The idea that we wander out into the landscape and easily capture images like the ones presented in this book is simply nonsense. This year’s winner Andrew Mielzynski knows all about patience, perseverance and determination, based on the quality of his winning portfolio" explained Peter Eastway, Chairman of Judges.

The image shown was created by Benjamin Barakat, Switzerland and awarded winner of the Aerial Award landscape photograph of the year 2024.

This is the eleventh year of the ILPOTY awards with 3643 entries received.

Meiselas is well known for depicting the stories of women: from girls growing up in Little Italy, New York; to st*****rs performing in state fairs; to women escaping domestic violence in the UK, and for her work documenting human rights issues in Latin America, as well as compiling a photographic history of Kurdistan.

ROYAL OBSERVATORY GREENWICH ANNOUNCES THE WINNER
OF ASTRONOMY PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR. Overall Winner: Distorted Shadows of the Moon’s Surface
Created by an Annular Eclipse © Ryan Imperio
The photo captures the progression of Baily’s beads during the 2023 annular eclipse.

Baily’s beads are formed when sunlight shines through the valleys and craters of the Moon’s surface, breaking the eclipse’s well-known ring pattern, and are only visible when the Moon either enters or exits an eclipse. These are a challenge to capture due to their brevity and the precise timing needed. The image will be on display alongside the winners of the other categories in the accompanying exhibition, opening at the National Maritime Museum on Friday 13 September 2024.

At the exit of the Brooklyn Bridge, not far from Dogtown Brooklyn, under a bridge, John E. Davis survives.
I spotted him from a distance. He reminds me of an Australian aborigine. I’m skeptical. I circle around him. The character is dense, intense. He yells, he speaks loudly, it’s all intimidating. He calls out to me. For the thousandth time, I explain that I’m a photographer and would like to take his portrait. He looks at me, questioning, then loudly declares: OK! I take four shots. The ending is happy.
