Sausage dog rescued from hot vehicle, Coolangatta
Gold Coast police are investigating after a dog was rescued from a hot vehicle at Coolangatta yesterday afternoon, December 8.
Police were called just after 2.30pm by a concerned member of the public, who observed the Miniature Daschund distressed in the back of a Volkswagen Jetta for at least an hour on Marine Parade, with the windows only slightly ajar.
Coolangatta Police attended and observed the vehicle parked in the sun with temperatures outside exceeding 27-degrees with high humidity, and Duppy the sausage dog in the back seat with no water.
Police were able to reach through the small gap in the window to manoeuvre Duppy out of the vehicle to safety.
An uncapped syringe was also observed in the vehicle.
While police were attending to Duppy and providing him water, the alleged driver of the vehicle returned and was taken into custody.
The 38-year-old Tweed Heads man, who was looking after Duppy for his owner, was charged with fail to take reasonable care and precautions in respect of syringe or needle.
He is expected to appear at Coolangatta Magistrates Court on 20 January 2025.
Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
Duppy was cared for by Coolangatta police and returned safely to his owner.
Police are reminding motorists that in hot weather, the inside of a car can quickly double the external temperature, and cause significant health implications for any person or animal inside the vehicle.

One man dead, another in custody after stabbing, pursuit - Northern Rivers
A man is in police custody after a stabbing at Iluka and subsequent pursuit north across the Northern Rivers region.
Emergency services were called to Ballanda Crescent, Iulka, about 4.30pm (Saturday 7 December 2024), responding to reports a man armed with a knife had allegedly forced his way into a home and attacked the resident.
Officers attached to Coffs-Clarence Police District attended along with NSW Ambulance paramedics, but the injured man died at the scene.
A crime scene was established and inquiries commenced into the circumstances surrounding his death.
A short time later, police attempted to stop a man driving a 4WD ute north along the Pacific Highway.
When the driver allegedly ignored police directions, a pursuit was initiated and continued north from Iluka to Woodburn where road spikes were successfully deployed by officers attached to Coffs Traffic and Highway Patrol Command.
The ute continued to Uralba Street, Woodburn, where a 58-year-old man was arrested.
He will be taken to Lismore Police Station.
Inquiries are continuing.
(Footage provided - Vehicle to be confirmed as it is not a ute as described in the police media release.)

THE GREENS AND LABOR SUPPORT DISRESPECTFUL ASSANGE PROTEST AT CENOTAPH!!!
If you are not with them, you are against them and you have no rights!!!
The Greens and Labor actually support protesting to free the likes of Julian Assange at a Cenotaph. Personally, I think it is completely disrespectful and offensive to many. It should not have been allowed to happen.
Ironically, some of the feral freaks in attendance at the Cenotaph often state they are defending our rights and freedoms. However, when I showed up exercising my rights, all my rights were ignored and I was harassed, abused, surrounded and assaulted. They actually tried to move me on from public space. This seems to be a common occurrence involving some of our local feral freaks.
The recording (original footage live streamed and now rotated correctly) shows the confrontation which occurred on Saturday at the Cenotaph during the protest. I still do not know if the protesters secured permission from police to hold the protest, but I have reported the incident involving the most feral freak in the group to police since it should not have happened either way.
