Closing a Chapter.

This may come off quite sudden but to keep it short, we've decided to close down Mind Society Studios. Over the years, we (David and Kurt) have gone through the controlled chaos that is running a business. We've worked on countless projects, made tough choices and fought through the pandemic.

Through all of this, our personal lives were constantly moving and changing until it reached a point where it no longer aligned with the business goals, and so we made the choice to put a conclusion to this venture.

This endeavour gave us so many fond memories and the process of shutting down has been quite bittersweet, but when one chapter closes, another one opens and there are so many more things to come.

At the last campsite before the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro we were treated to an unbelievable view. The clouds cleared and the neighbouring Mawenzi Peak opened itself up to us. Although we shot this quick timelapse to try and capture the magic, it was just one of those moments that could only be fully and truly experienced when you're there.

In March we embarked on a wild adventure where we spent 6 days on Mt. Kilimanjaro while filming for Mountains and Marathons. Along the journey we snapped up some amazing moments for our own memories along the way.

There was so much that happened on this trip and we're excited to show as much of it as possible!

Shot back in 2021, we shot this music video with a more minimalistic approach to highlight the performance of Kaiya.

Although the original plans for a larger scale set were scrapped due to the lockdowns, it became an incredibly fun exercise in figuring out ways to light and set up each room to have a certain look and feel. Sometimes keeping it simple is the way to go!

As we said our goodbyes to 2021, we stepped into 2022 with the first shoot being in the Bahamas.

It was a breath of fresh to be able to travel internationally again after being grounded for so long due to the pandemic and reuniting again with Mountains and Marathons to film their leadership program.

Hey everyone! We've been a bit quiet on our socials this year so here's a quick update on what's happened, what we're doing and where we're headed.

It's no surprise that 2021 was another exhausting year of setbacks and delays and so with the start of 2022 it was our chance to catch up with our lives again.

The work also picked up immediately and we were off, flying to places like the Bahamas and Kilimanjaro, filming products and promos, covering events and editing recaps, winning competitions and flexing our creative muscles again.

We almost forgot how busy it could get and even though it was overwhelming we felt grateful. We can't say exactly what lies ahead but we can guarantee that it's going to be exciting and we hope you can join us in that excitement!

Daydreams

A spirit wanders off into a daydream and finds herself feeling lost and alone. As she ponders deeper into her situation, she's eventually surprised by where she belongs. The idea for this film came to me during one of my own daydreams. I would see these reflective mirrors in many places and they always felt somewhat out of place and so I imagined it to be a spirit that was always looking for a place to belong.

This is a little sneak peak of our submission for the Laowa by Venus Optics Video Marathon contest. The contest features 10 hand picked videographers across the globe to create a 1 minute short film using their lenses and the theme of circles.

Our film is called Daydreams, which was an idea born out of seeing circular safety mirrors in a lot of different places and imagining a "spirit", who embodies the mirror, feeling out of place and having no sense of belonging no matter where he/she/it goes.

Special thanks to Daphne (@mindtheg__ap) for modelling (and even bigger thanks as she never once showed her face in the film!), her friend Andrea (.photos) for some added company and assistance, and a big thank you to Nam (.chops) for shooting all of the BTS photos and videos and assisting on the day as well.
