DARRY FRASER has ‘the knack’ for bringing history to life through her fantastic stories.

It was a ‘cool’ afternoon in every way today 😎 at the Keith Community Library as we enjoyed chatting with Darry about her books - especially her new one, ‘The Night On The Darling River’.

Thanks to the wonderful staff at the Keith Community Library for your warm welcome & hospitality, and to everyone who was able to come along.

Yesterday, we joined with the Inman Valley community and a huge gathering of family & friends, to celebrate the launch of one very special book…’The Vets of the Valley: Vietnam’ by Jo Lush.

My sister-in-law Jo’s beautiful quilts in the Bookshop are regularly admired & now she’s written a book!

‘THE VETS OF THE VALLEY : Vietnam’, shares the stories of the 5 local men whose names appear on the Vietnam War Memorial Honour Board of the Inman Valley Memorial Hall.

Each had extraordinary experiences that changed the course of their lives. For too long they had just been names on the Honour Board. Jo set about to change all that!

After lots of conversations, writing down of memories & answering all Jo’s questions…a beautiful legacy, in the form of a book now honours their stories & their service for generations to come.

It was lovely to meet ‘one of the five’, Graham Hutchinson yesterday and listen as Graham reflected on his story before, during and after the war.

Anne ‘Wilsy’ Wills who entertained the troops at an army sponsored concert party in South Vietnam in 1970, was the guest speaker at the book launch.

And, just in case you’re wondering, I did bring back extra copies. Available at the Bookshop
from Tuesday.

1st 'Local' AUTHOR EVENT FOR 2025...coming up very soon... WEDNESDAY February 12th at 2-3pm.

South Australian author DARRY FRASER will be at the Keith Community Library to chat with us about her latest novel, 'The Night On The Darling River'...the 1894 shearer's strike, rising flood waters and violence at home, Tess unwittingly boards the PS Rodney for its fateful journey on the Darling River.

Darry says 'We learn about history (in school) but we never really know what it felt like, so I try to put us into that setting of what it might've felt like at that time.

Check out this BEAUTIFUL DISPLAY of Maree Schaefer’s books in the Bookshop window this week. Maree’s story… During a COVID lockdown in Germany, Adelaide grandparents Maree & Brian became conference carers three or four times a week to their 6 grandchildren living in Europe. Maree decided to write & publish her own Aussie themed personal stories and childhood memories to share with the Grandies, improve their English & keep them busy! Fast forward a couple of years and Maree has written 10 books!! Maree’s books are available to purchase at the Bookshop so all children and grandchildren can enjoy them!

HAPPY NEW YEAR Hope you might start 2024 inspired by a few words of wisdom from writer C.S Lewis : 'There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind'. We're taking a few weeks off in January. The Bookshop will be closed and we'll be taking a break from social media as well. Time to wind down & catch up with family and friends...time to dream, plan and create....and read!
