On Saturday January the 11th from nine to noon The Theme Machine — with Paul Young on Radio Blue Mountains — presents the playlist ‘Rock and Roll Heaven’. This list of close to 50 tracks is inspired by a short story by Stephen King called ‘You Know They Got A Hell Of A Band’. The tale is about a young couple on a weekend drive who become lost and stumble upon a town called Rock and Roll Heaven, which just happens to be inhabited by dead rock ‘n’ roll stars. The show features tracks by the (mostly young) musos who ‘live’ there, in the order in which they appear in the story itself. Artists include The Rolling Stones (for Brian Jones), The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Freddie Mercury, Keith Moon, John Bonham and John Lennon.

Saturday December 21 from nine through noon, tune in to Paul Young’s The Theme Machine on Radio Blue Mountains for the playlist ‘Forever Young’. Check out forty odd (in more than one sense of the word) songs with the words ‘young’, ‘youth’ or similar in the title. It also celebrates all of the members of the Young family out there - those the host knows and those he’s yet to meet. 😁 This’ll be a revamped version of a show from over two years ago.
Featured artists include The Lambrettas, The Who, The Jam, The Animals, The Specials, Alice Cooper, Alphaville and XTC.

Saturday December the 7th from 9 to noon, tune in to The Theme Machine with Paul Young on Radio Blue Mountains for the 45-track playlist called ‘Mad About Music’, a reboot from about three years ago. Most people I know … are mad about music! And Paul is moving house, which is of course maddening! Hence the theme. Some of the acts that made the list are Bowie, Seal, Patsy Cline, Madness, Pink Floyd, Skyhooks and Prince.

On Saturday November the 23rd, The Theme Machine presents ‘The Machine Theme’ on Radio Blue Mountains. This is a 41-track playlist of songs, most of which have the word ‘machine’ in the title, referring to machines in the physical sense, also to the use of the word as a euphemism for ‘the system’, governmental, societal or otherwise. It’s both a revamped version of a show from near on three years ago and part one in a series. Featured acts include Hawkwind, Kraftwerk, Ultravox, Pink Floyd, The Living End, The Flaming Lips, SAHB and XTC.

Saturday November the 16th, on The Theme Machine from 9 through midday, catch the 42-track playlist entitled ‘Belated Halloween — 2 Parts Scary, 1 Part Sweet’. Though a little late this year, it’s the best of the last six Theme Machine Halloween specials. It’s about ghoulies and ghosties and long-leggedy beasties, and things that go bump in the night — and sweet stuff! So it will consist of two spooky tracks followed by one referring to lollies, sweets, candy and the like — right throughout the show!
