The view out of the kitchen window in the last week of September. This is the Snowy Range. There is a 15km "solid climb" walk to the peak of Snowy South (on left in photo) and Lake Skinner. We'll do it when we're feeling a bit more energetic.

We are so happy with the renovation that has transformed our farmhouse over these past months. These before-after splits give an idea of the great job our builder Ray and his team at Valley Custom Construction have done. They went the extra mile with attention to detail and a focus on quality. We are getting ready to open up to short-term stays from the middle of November. Check out www.freshayrefarm.com.au

When you dismantle the kitchen ahead of its renovation and find that under 3 layers of lino and an insulating layer of newspapers from the late 1950s are beautiful, original Tassie Oak floorboards in outstanding condition!

The pastures of Fresh Ayre Farm (known as Homeburn) used to be an apple orchard. In the 1960s, the 'apple isle' was sending 7 million cases of apples across the world, particularly to the UK. When Britain joined the European Common Market in 1973, demand for Tassie apples crashed and many orchardists ripped thousands of trees out of the ground. The old apple shed on Fresh Ayre Farm remains, complete with the old grading belts and tubs.

Fresh Ayre Farm is our dream that has been years in the making. Six years ago we found this special and quiet part of the Huon Valley - Judbury. The characterful farmhouse, the 24 acres of fertile green pastures, the tree-lined banks of the majestic Huon River at the bottom of the property, the historic apple shed, the views over the valley and to the Snowy Mountains range, all captivated us from the first day. The surrounding region is traditionally agricultural (once apples, now more dairy) but is also rich in forest and wildlife.

We are working on the century-old farmhouse, inside and out, to get it to a point where we can welcome our first guests to this patch of peacefulness in time for winter 2021. We will keep you posted as we go ....
