It is with great love and sadness that we announce that founder Jill Mure passed away peacefully on Friday.

George & Jill Mure first opened Mures Fish House in Battery Point in 1973, and together they established our iconic hook-to-plate practice. While George went fishing for the best local species, Jill would run the restaurant and transform the latest catch into delicious dishes for their guests.

Together they pioneered Tasmania’s Blue Eye Trevalla industry (a species which continues to be beloved by locals to this day), Tasmania’s first commercial mussel farm, and of course Mures Fish Centre now located at Victoria Dock on the Hobart waterfront.

When George passed in 2003, Jill handed the business over to children Will and Sarah. Today Mures is led by Will & Jude Mure, and children Eve, Wilson, and Jock.

We take this moment to celebrate the incredible life of Jill and her contribution to all that is Mures today. Her passion, values and ethos will continue to be carried forward by our family now and in future generations to come.

Dover Boat Ramp Access Area Upgrade

Work is completed on the upgrade and widening of the access and manoeuvring area and the boat ramp has reopened.

To maximise the turning space, it is recommended not to park onsite. When the new trailer parking area is completed, signs will be installed limiting onsite parking to rigging and de-rigging only.

MAST and Huon Valley Council would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while the various stages of work are undertaken.

We know the vast majority of abalone fishers do the right thing, however we sometimes have to pull people up who aren’t.

Fisheries Officers observed 2 men, allegedly taking abalone at Fossil Beach, Mornington.

During the search, the pair were allegedly found with 126 blacklip abalone (76 undersize) and 1 undersize greenlip. All abalone were returned to the water and the vehicle and dive gear were seized.

Officers undertook surveillance later that same day, observing 5 more men, allegedly taking abalone near Fishermans Beach, Mornington.

Fisheries Officers and Victoria Police apprehended the 5 men at 7:45pm and allegedly found another 189 blacklip abalone (70 undersize) in their vehicle.

The men were arrested and charged with fisheries offences.

The VFA wants all Victorians to get out fishing. Let’s all stay within our catch and size limits so there are heaps of fish left for the future!
