Tasmap have just released a new edition of South Coast Walks map and notes.

You need this map to explore the Port Davey and South Coast tracks which lie within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area and are part of the Southwest National Park. There are no roads, no power lines and few modern conveniences. The walks take the visitor to the southern extremity of an island at the world's end. This is wilderness.

Tasmap have just released an updated version of our very popular Cradle Mountain Day Walks Map and Notes.

Situated in central western Tasmania, Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park is the most famous of Tasmania's national parks. Its rugged mountain peaks and alpine moorland offer some of the finest scenery in Australia, making it a mecca for bushwalkers.

Now is also the time to experience the gorgeous autumn colours of the turning of the fagus at Cradle Mountain before the winter weather sets in with strong winds and heavy snowfall so you can use map to find your way to the best viewing areas.

This much-anticipated event occurred slightly earlier this year, with most plants now at full turn at higher altitudes including Dove Lake, Cradle Cirque, Crater Lake, Twisted Lakes, Lake Rodway, Hounslow Heath and Waterfall Valley. Thickets that are at lower elevations and more protected are only just starting to turn, including those at Waldheim and on the Overland Track between Pelion and Windemere.

Tasmap have just released Edition 3 of our best selling St Clair and Tasman Peninsula 1:50 000 Topographic Maps.

Tasman Peninsula features Tasman National Park, renowned for its spectacular coastal scenery, diverse forests and the Three Capes Experience. Additionally, two Historic Sites at Port Arthur and Coal Mines, both inscribed on the World Heritage List as part of the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage are popular with visitors. The coastal conditions vary from huge waves for surfers to sheltered bays sought by recreational fishers and boat owners.

St Clair covers the southern portions of Walls of Jerusalem National Park and Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park. As this region is remote, elevated and exposed to highland weather events the map is an essential navigation aid for walkers and wilderness fisherman accessing the lakes west of Bronte Park.

Frenchmans Cap Walking Track Re-opening

Frenchmans Cap walking track will re-open to walkers on Saturday 17 September.

The track was closed on 4 August due to a tree that had fallen and caused significant damage to the suspension bridge over the Franklin River rendering it unsafe for walkers.

Repair work has proceeded well and will be completed next week.

Spring is here and on the Three Capes Track that means an abundance of colour and variety from beautiful floral displays.

More than 60 species of native orchid can be found along the track and roughly half of them flower between September and December.

The Waxlip Orchid and the Mayfly Orchid are two of our early spring species and usually herald the start of the peak flowering period. You need to keep a sharp eye though, as Tasmanian native orchids generally range from small to tiny.

Other flowering plants put on their amazing show over the spring months. Be prepared for a feast of the senses!

Frenchmans Cap walking track and suspension bridge closure

The Frenchmans Cap walking track and the suspension bridge across the Franklin River are closed until further notice.

The closure is due to a tree that has fallen and caused significant damage to the suspension bridge which now poses a significant safety hazard to walkers.

Please note that the Franklin River is swollen and very fast flowing and therefore too dangerous to cross without the bridge. Please abide by signage at the location and any directions from staff or contractors.

We will be working to assess the damage and make necessary repairs as soon as possible.
