Helensburgh Cases Updates Follow to get simple daily updates about COVID in the Helensburgh/2508 area. The pages provides conv This data is released on Weekdays only.

Daily Updates are based on data provided by NSW Ministry of Health: "NSW COVID-19 cases by location" (COVID-19 cases by notification date and postcode, local health district, and local government area.csv). There will necessarily be a lag between the availability of source data via Services NSW, and the publication of data on this page. Data definitions for this page. "Case" in the source data is

defined:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
COVID-19 cases by notification date and postcode, local health district, and local government area. The dataset is updated daily, except on weekends. The data is for confirmed COVID-19 cases only based on location of usual residence, not necessarily where the virus was contracted. The case definition of a confirmed case is a person who tests positive to a validated specific SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid test or has the virus identified by electron microscopy or viral culture, at a reference laboratory. Data reported at 8pm daily. Case counts reported by NSW Health for a particular notification date may vary over time due to ongoing investigations and the outcome of cases under review thus this dataset and any historical data contained within is subject to change on a daily basis. The underlying dataset was assessed to measure the risk of identifying an individual and the level of sensitivity of the information gained if it was known that an individual was in the dataset. The dataset was then treated to mitigate these risks, including suppressing and aggregating data.
----------------------------------------------------------------
"Total Cases" is the sum of all cases during the pandemic period
"New Cases" are cases reported in the period
-----------------------------------------------------------------
To be clear: where an infected person is asymptomatic and/or does not seek testing, they will not be included as a "case". COVID Cases of people resident in the 2508 area do not represent the only or major threat of infection to residents.

This will be the one and only philosophical comment to come out of this page, I promise. The main aim of this page is simply to fill you in on the daily numbers for our area, as soon as possible (which seems to be about 12:15 pm), so you can be informed without fussing with apps etc

Each case recorded is one of our treasured community members and I wish them a speedy recovery. They will get the full support of our community, I'm sure of that. The numbers shown are our family and friends and we must do all we can to keep this curve low and brief. It would be good to shut this page down!

There is one very safe interpretation I can make of the data before us: so far we have been very successful in keeping COVID at bay. This must be due to the protection of our glorious Dharawal lands, and mostly our cohesion as a community, discipline and care for each other.

The sum of all our little individual actions of infection control amounts to a community project that delivers us safety. Bravo Helensburgh, Otford, Stanwell Tops, Stanwell Park, Darkes Forest, Coalcliff...and Bulga. We can all be proud of our effort. Best wishes and Merry Christmas.

This chart shows the uptick in new cases in December and the proportion of days where new cases have been confirmed.

Caution should be exercised in interpreting these small numbers, which remain small. Only health professionals have enough information to determine the significance of the increase, how it relates to the large increase in other areas and what that means about the presence of the virus in our community.
