The Radio Toni Story

I never knew I wanted to be in radio until I did!!

In January 2019 I published my first book - Resilience - “Memoir of a Broken Little girl discovering a woman of strength and beauty.” As part of the process of being a first time author I embarked on a marketing strategy the included working with and on social media, increasing my social media presence and creating networks of people....in other words, for the first time ever, I made my socials public and started connecting and networking with people I didn’t know. Daunting and scary but once you “get over yourself” and “just do it” it works so magically.

During this time, I also found a wonderful audio company to produce the audio book version of Resilience. Brisbane Audio Production owner, Simone actually encouraged me to narrate my book, something I also had not considered until she suggested it. With Simones support and encouragement I narrated the whole book over multiple sessions in her recording booth in Brisbane. It was both harrowing and empowering and at the end Simone commented on how much she liked my voice and had I thought of podcasting or being on radio. It was something I “parked” to think about at a later stage. With the release of the audio book I went back to marketing, speaking, promoting the book and the never ending job of increasing and strengthening my social media presence. Creating a Digital footprint - its tediously hard work but so worthwhile.

I revamped and updated my LinkedIn profile and started building my connections on this platform, whilst learning how its algorithms work. I have made the best connections and had the most “fruitful” connections on this platform. One of those new connections was to a Florida based radio network owner when he generously answered a question I had about podcasting. This conversation led to a Skype call that changed the trajectory of my life and one Im forever grateful for.

At the end of that Skype call, Dean Piper, the owner of Pipeman Radio and a number of networks under that banner, offered me a 50 minute weekly radio segment on internet Radio on the Women for Women Network. I was dumbfounded, all I had to do was pay for the radio technician and I could have my own show. Heard all around the world and converted to a podcast after the show. I was equally thrilled and terrified, but as this is my year of saying yes, that precisely what I did.

I said YES and then set about the task of learning about radio, as quickly as I could. For this I went back to my wonderful new friend Simone, at Brisbane Audio Production, who helped

me understand and develop a show “schedule”, spent time with me discovering what I thought I wanted to achieve on my show, and then produced the vital “bits of audio” that make up a radio show. I used the information Dean supplied and bought my first lot of audio gear and honed my skills on how Skype works.

So Radio Toni is produced in conjunction with my radio technician Rebel, who is based in Florida! Its delivered via Skype over the internet. So from my home based studio on the Gold Coast I talk to many wonderful guests from all over the world. Listeners get to “chat” with the guests and I and ask as many questions as they like, make comments and interact live on the show.

The best thing .... I love it! Its the most fun and i get the privilege of educating, inspiring and empowering the world one radio show at a time.
