As artists, we always want to be further ahead and more accomplished, full of amazing vision or master of better technique. Yet despite our hard work and efforts, it is sometimes easy to feel we are never as good as we could be.

We are not gods, nor are we perfect artists and can be incredibly self critical at times. But those very human flaws can actually serve as a source of strength in our myosin or creative form really.

Rather than self-criticism, try to step back and say, “I really like what I just did, because it taught me something new and I’m moving forward.” This can be hard to do, especially for those artists who are constantly outwardly focused, wondering “will other people like what I’m doing?” instead of “do I like what I’m doing?”

It’s a mistaken belief that “being a successful artist is a product of genius, good music or a product of near genius.”

Sometimes it’s good to stop for a minute and instead, think about what you are making and why you enjoy it.

Music and Art, like many things in life, is a skill that can be learned through daily practice and dedication.

Learning your craft, learning a business, learning to brand yourself, digging deep emotionally, but ask yourself why do you do this. SO….(haha) create for arts sake and follow your heart. After all Oscar Wilde once said
"Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life".

You are your own creative director. You can dream as big or as humble as you’d like. You can keep things simple, or create a huge artist persona à la Ziggy Stardust. You can also change your brand anytime you like, ideally strategically and thoughtfully.

The purpose of your brand is to build awareness of your music—to develop recognition, a reputation, and a following. A brand helps bring intentionality to how you market your music and provides consistency in your promotional materials. It provides something for both your fans and music industry professionals to latch onto. It also demonstrates to the latter that you’re thinking about the business side of your art (even if you want little to do with it) and that you’re serious about promoting your music. ✨🪩🤩🎵🎤🥰
