Kölsch is a beer that is widely praised, and while the recipe is simple enough (Pilsner malt, German noble hops, soft water and German ale yeast), it is far too often poorly replicated. Last week, the 2024 Australian Liquor Industry Awards took place in Sydney, celebrating the country’s best people, brands and venues, including 11 beer awards ranging from Best Full Strength Beer to Best Australian Brewery.

The Taphouse in Darlinghurst took home the Best Beer List award, while Stone & Wood won the Best Mainstream Craft and Best Australian Brewery awards.

The 2024 Australian Liquor Industry Awards took place in Sydney last night celebrating the country's best people, brands and venues, with a number of beer winners announced.

At the 2024 Beer & Brewer Awards first-ever live ceremony on 20 October, one of the major awards – Brewpub of the Year – was awarded to two venues. Adelaide’s Wheatsheaf Hotel, which has been brewing beer on site for a decade, and newcomer Brewmanity in Melbourne shared the honours.

Publican and brewer at the Wheatsheaf Hotel, Jade Flavell, said she was “chuffed” with the result, and the quality and tenacity of brewers across the country. For Brewmanity, whose South Melbourne venue has been open less than a year, the win validates a lot of work and consideration that went into the venue long before it opened, suggests co-founder David Neitz.

Both venues have nailed the mix between fantastic beers and great hospitality.

At the 2024 Beer & Brewer Awards, Bintani was named Supplier of the Year, a new category for 2024 which recognised Bintani as being at the forefront of innovation and providing best-in-class customer and industry support.

Judges praised Bintani for being supportive of the industry, and always showing a willingness to sponsor and reinvest, and this week we caught up with Brandon Ward, Marketing Manager for Bintani, who says it was a real honour to be recognised among so many of Australia’s suppliers.

Bintani was recognised for its dedication to its customers and the industry at the 2024 Beer & Brewer Awards.

Last week, Richard Adamson, Co-Founder of Young Henrys, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Beer & Brewer Awards, recognised by the judges as someone who has not only played a significant role in Australia’s craft beer landscape, but who also is playing a major role in the industry’s future.

Shortly after the awards, we caught up with Richard to find out what the recognition meant to him. He also shared his thoughts on how the industry has changed over his career, what still excites him, and his thoughts on the future of the industry.
