In 2022, Molly Rose Brewing Founder Nic Sandery opened the brewery for half an hour on Christmas Day to pour free pots of beer. It’s a tradition he’s adhered to every year since, and tomorrow is no different. From 11am until 11:30am on Christmas Day, Sandery once again invites the Collingwood community to enjoy a free pot of beer at the brewery as a thanks for the support throughout the year.

Moon Dog Craft Brewery opened its fifth Melbourne venue, Moon Dog Beach Club, in Frankston yesterday. Moon Dog Beach Club offers four bars, a balcony beer garden and private spaces throughout the venue, with the main stage providing an area for DJs to play into the later hours. There are cabana huts and hammock areas surrounded by palm trees and green foliage to capture the venue’s vacation feel, and a food menu that includes prawn buckets, seafood towers and a range of grazing options. Alongside Moon Dog's own beverages, the drinks list includes Mojitos and Mai Tais, alcoholic slushies, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages.

In the latest edition of Recipe of the Week, we hear from John Keske, President of Melbourne Brewers, who has been kind enough to share this mouthwatering recipe of his award-winning Kölsch. He says his recipe is simple, mostly Pilsner Malt, with a bit of Munich to round it out, and while many homebrew Kölsch recipes include wheat, most traditional breweries do not, and he chooses to leave it out.

This week on Beer & Brewer, Deb Jackson speaks with several women in the brewing industry, many of whom share their frustrations about the lack of sufficient support systems for women and non-binary individuals, with barriers that went beyond mere visibility. While they acknowledge that progress had been made in terms of inclusivity, the message is clear: systemic issues like gender bias, harassment, and a lack of mentorship are still deeply entrenched, and the focus should be on creating supportive, inclusive environments that offer equal opportunities and mentorship to all brewers, regardless of gender.
