HAROLD THE HUNGRY TOILET
Thursday, November 19 was World Toilet Day, and Unitywater marked the day with the launch of a new children’s book, written by Unitywater worker (and now author) Andrew Hanifin, that teaches what should and shouldn’t be flushed down the loo. The book was inspired by the initial COVID-19 toilet paper shortage.
Limited free copies are available for collection at Unitywater offices in Maroochydore and Caboolture or email requests to [email protected].
The book will also be available at a number of public libraries across the region.

STAY AWAY FROM BATS

On the walk home from school drop off last week, one of our team members came across an [unfortunately] deceased bat by the side of the path.
A popular route to/from school, thankfully, after calling WILVOS, someone came to safely remove it.

The Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service public health unit is urging locals and visitor not to touch bats, even if they seem sick, injured or dead.

They’re a fascinating species, but it is important that we teach our children that it is not safe to touch bats, instead, the best thing to do is to let someone know and contact a wildlife rescue organisation that has vaccinated and trained bat carers.

GARDEN REOPENS FOR LEARNING

The Beerburrum State School P&C is pleased that its members have been able to complete the upgrade of the school’s kitchen garden this year thanks to the generous support of the Rotary Club of Glasshouse Mountains through a $1,000 grant in 2019.

The school is now holding Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden classes again and have been using some of the garden’s produce and for the past couple of months the year 6 students have also been selling produce to fundraise for their end-of-year activity.

If local parents and community members would like to get involved in a fun environment with the kids, volunteers are always required to help in the kitchen each Wednesday and on any day to help in garden.
