For 10 decades this quaint little chapel has stood the test of time. An ode to the Little Family and the pioneers of days gone by.

Central Queensland coach Jason Wells has declared that the Seamers will be back at The Gabba next year despite a 37-run loss in the Bulls Masters Country Challenge final on Sunday.

CQ were outclassed by the triumphant Far North but that loss will only allow the young group of players to grow according to the coach.

“You just don’t get these levels of experiences very often, playing at The Gabba and on the big stage with a lot of pressure,” Wells said.

“That’s what we noticed on Sunday, was in those big pressure moments we weren’t quite there.

“The best part about it is that you learn from those experiences and we have a young group, three or four players who would have absolutely loved it.

“And when we’re back here next year, not if but when, they will be better for it.”....

Families gathered together on a property near Raglan Station for New Year’s Eve celebrations welcomed the sight of summer storms rolling in and dropping 18.5mm on the paddocks in under half an hour.

Thankfully, The New Year’s Eve fireworks at Gladstone Marina Parklands were spared and party-goers enjoyed the display without the wet.

Wide spread storms brought 5.8mm to Gladstone on New Years Day while Biloela received 16.2mm.

Moderate to heavy rainfall resulted in river level rises along the Dawson River, downstream of Theodore and minor localised flooding occurred at a few locations across the Gladstone and Banana Shire regions.

Minor flooding occurred along the Dawson River at Baralaba on Thursday, January 2. The river level was expected to remain above the minor flood level until late Thursday.

Further showers and thunderstorms will continue over the catchment leading into the weekend but were not expected to significantly affect river levels.

Gladstone’s newly opened Nurse-led Walk-in Clinic has patients covered for non-urgent healthcare this holiday season.

With the recent directive from Central Queensland Health that pressure remains high on Gladstone’s hospital emergency departments, the Queensland Nurses and Midwives’ Union (QNMU) is drawing the public’s attention to the newly opened Nurse-led Walk-in Clinic in the city’s centre.

“We are very pleased to see the long-awaited Nurse-led Walk-in Clinic now open despite the days and hours of operation being reduced from the original schedule,” QNMU Secretary Sarah Beaman said.

“We really encourage community to utilise this free, walk in service.”

So, on the weekend of 16 and 17 November 2024, the parish celebrated in wonderful style with two days of events, which were the culmination of many months of planning.

The centenary celebrations began on the Saturday morning with a pilgrimage walk through the church, led by Sr Noreen Dunne SMSM, reflecting on the many significant moments of faith that have taken place within its walls.

Later that evening the formal centenary dinner was held at the Reef Hotel, attended by both current and former parishioners, including several Marist priests and Sisters of Mercy who had served in the parish over the years.....
