Today is World Kindness Day🫶🌏

Today (and every day) we celebrate the power of compassion, generosity, and our community. In Geurie, we're reminded every day of the kindness that brings us together - from a smile, a helping hand, a kind word or supporting each other in times of need - they all have the ability to brighten our residents day and spread positivity 🌞

Small acts of kindness make a big difference and together we make a stronger, kinder community 💟

🎖️REMEMBRANCE DAY 🎖️
Since World War I, Australians have been called on many times to serve in wars, conflicts, and peace and humanitarian operations.

Almost 2 million people have worn with pride the uniforms of the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force.

Today, tragically, the Australian War Memorial’s Roll of Honour lists the names of more than 102,000 Australians who have lost their lives in war and conflict. Those listed were members of the Australian armed forces who died during their service or afterwards as a result of war service:
▪️World War I
▪️World War II
▪️Post-1945 conflicts, warlike service, non-warlike service and certain peace operations

Remembrance Day is a time for Australians to unite in solemn respect and remembrance for all those who died or suffered. It is a day to reflect on the sacrifices made by our brave servicemen and women, and to honour their memory. We remember their courage, their mateship, and their devotion to our nation. We also acknowledge the families and loved ones who have supported them, and who have borne the burden of their loss.

We will remember them ❤️

Movember Australia is a month-long event where men grow moustaches to raise awareness of men's health issues. Back in 2003, two mates Travis Garone and Luke Slattery met up for a quiet beer in Melbourne, Australia and the idea that sparked Movember was born. The moustache had all but disappeared from the fashion trends. Could they bring it back? They found 30 guys willing to take up the challenge.🔥

Fast forward 21 years, Movember has now claimed a headcount of over 6️⃣ million. And they are not done yet.

Movember has successfully funded over 1,320 men's health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men's health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men. Movember is doing what other cannot, uniting experts from around the world to collaborate on projects that will fundamentally change the way men in need are treated and supported.

Movember is taking on three of the biggest health issues affecting men: mental health and su***de prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Our fathers, partners, brothers and friends are facing a health crisis, yet it's rarely talked about. Men are dying too young. We can't afford to stay silent.

How is Movember making change?
◾️Giving men the facts
◾️Changing behaviour for the better
◾️Creating services that work for men
◾️Uniting the brightest minds
◾️Listening to the community and advocating for men

Five things men should know and do when it comes to their health:
1️⃣Spend time with people who make you feel good - Stay connected. Your mates are important and spending time with them is good for you. Catch up regularly, check in and make time.
2️⃣Talk more. - You do not need to be an expert and you do not need to be the sole solution, but being there for someone, listening and giving your time can be life saving.
3️⃣Know the numbers. - At 50, talk to your doctor about prostate cancer and whether it is right for you to have the PSA test. Know your numbers, know your risk, talk to your doctor.
4️⃣Know thy nuts. Simple. - Get to know what is normal for your testicles. Give them a check regularly and go to the doctor it something does not feel right.
5️⃣Move, more. - Add more activity to your day. Do more of what makes you feel good. Take a walking meeting. Park further away from the station. Get off the bus a stop or two earlier. Instead of the lift, take the stairs. Cycle to work instead of driving.
