While my weekend didn’t go as planned due to a miserable 9mth old, I was able to duck out to Trangie Campdraft on Saturday for my run in the maiden and ladies. So much fun!

For a small committee, they put on a big show, well done.

I live in a small town (actually a village), am on a local committee, on the school P&C, on my polocrosse club committee and on our polocrosse zone committee - so, it’s easy to see that community is a BIG value of mine.

To be in a position where my business can support another small community committee, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!

And I may have to get me a couple of those branded mugs, how good do they look.

Are you a small business with less than 20 employees and not sure what STP is?

Have you set it up in your software and ready to go?

Do you have your processes in place for each payrun to ensure you report correctly to the ATO?

If you have answered no to any of these questions, you need to contact me.

Parliament has now passed legislation to extend Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting to include all small employers (those with fewer than 20 employees) from 1 July 2019. STP is pay day reporting by employers to the ATO as it happens, this reporting having started on 1 July 2018 for large employers....

I’m pretty good at listening to my friends but until yesterday I didn’t realise that I have been asking my clients and potential clients the wrong questions.

That’s all going to change.

Ask the big questions and then just listen.

You gotta have friends, so this week's episode is all about how to keep your buddies by your side, and make the bonds you already have deeper and stronger 💪 Sometimes it's hard to figure out how to skip the small talk and go straight to the big stuff, so Brooke and Ben start to break it down, sharing their ideas for maintaining meaningful and fun friendships. We can't wait to hear your thoughts on this - listen now in your poggie app or on our site and comment below to tell us how you're bringing more slow and intention to your pals: https://slowyourhome.com/247/

I attended this workshop yesterday and was blown away.

I was right out of my comfort zone and was doubting how I could be of help, as a service provider, to the start ups and future founders. It turns out, they helped me more!!

I’m not creative and when we first started on the design thinking process I was very resistant but opened my mind and can see how this thinking process is valuable to everyone.

Wonderful to meet so many people with AMAZING ideas who shared their dreams so openly.

Now, I’m off to the big blue shop to buy big post it notes and textas, as I need to get this stuff into action ASAP.

And small businesses, if an opportunity knocks, grab it with both hands even if you feel uncomfortable about it. It might turn out to be a great experience.

HOLIDAYS

I absolutely love this time of year, what's not to love about Christmas (apart from the madness at the shopping centre).

As a small business owner I could get sucked into the trap of working over the Christmas break (one of my 'employed' places is shutting for two weeks) but a friend (and client) reminded that it's good to have a solid break to recharge

So, on Friday afternoon, I am shutting my computer and declaring it tools down. I'm taking 2 full weeks off my business.

Any work that needs to be done can wait until January.

How do you plan on spending the break? Do you get to take time off? If not, make sure you plan some time out throughout the year. I know us business owners feel we need to work, work, work but without a break, mentally we just won't be at our best.

Have a great one everyone x

I read this article in the newspaper last week and I was gobsmacked.

I was mostly floored over the fact that business owners were paying him direct for their ATO liabilities. No no no. You might trust your accountant, but that's going a step too far.

Your business has it's own unique BPay details with the ATO. It is on your BAS and IAS forms. When paying any ATO liability, use the details provided from the ATO and pay them direct.

No matter how much you trust your accountant or bookkeeper, I would recommend that you NEVER EVER pay to a third party to 'pass on' to the ATO.

MY VALUE

I'm in a couple of bookkeeping related FB groups, which I love, so much knowledge out there!

Lately there have been a few posts about how to show clients our value as bookkeepers. Given there are a lot of cloud based software options available and these market direct to business owners, it can feel like we as bookkeepers are being made redundant. And then there is off shore bookkeeping available for a very low price but I won't go into this.

I don't believe that my value is in my data entry or basic bookkeeping. My value is in the fact that I look at my clients business from a totally different and un-emotional perspective. I am also happy to make recommendations to my client to go see other professionals - insurance brokers, solicitors, accountants etc.

Just this week I have advised a client to:

~ get an insurance review done as he has a few different insurances and not too sure what they are all for. You might be the same with direct debits coming out and you're not really sure what they are for, and
~ beware when consolidating debt into your home loan cause the repayments/interest will be much less (brokers love this line). Especially secured car loans. The interest for these have been predetermined and the payout figure will include the principal and the interest which would have been payable over the full term of the loan. When it is put into the home loan, you will then be paying interest on interest. And lets not go into the fact that it's a work vehicle so there are deductions available which would be hard to determine when rolled into the home loan.

Is your bookkeeper looking at your business like this? Are you looking at your business like this?

Ask your bookkeeper questions.

If you see another professional make sure you have a trusted person/business adviser to run things over with just to get another view.

Lets make your business life easy

Last week I reached out to a business which looked to be doing their invoices in a word document. This was the case, they were then entering it into an accounting program.

BUT, they were meeting with their accountant to get a lesson in a cloud based accounting program. This made me so happy. I want to make sure that ALL business owners and bookkeepers know there is an easy way out there.

I have offered this business my help if they have any questions re the new software. Some business owners don't like to bother their accountant with simple software questions.

Are you still using Word to create your invoices? Is doing your BAS taking more time than it should? Are you using a cloud based program but just not sure if you're using correctly? I can help you with all these things and we can make your business life much easier!

My other passion, aside from bookkeeping, is running and specifically trail runner.

I'm so happy to be a sponsor of this fabulous local event.

Can't wait to run Mt Arthur!!

We are excited to be welcoming another brand new bronze sponsor! Ness at In Order Business Solutions is a fully qualified bookkeeper and BAS agent who loves working with small businesses within the Central West. But her other passion is trail running and she was keen to sponsor a local trail running event.

Ness is a regular Mt Arthur Challenge competitor and we are very appreciative of her support! For some trail running inspiration from Ness check out https://www.facebook.com/agirlwholovestorun/

Welcome everyone to my business page.

I am all inspired after spending the morning with a wonderful group of fellow bookkeepers and BAS agents at our regular ICB meeting.

I offer full service bookkeeping (all data entry, BAS completion, end of financial year etc) or we can tailor a package which suits your needs.

So, if the bookkeeping and financial side of business is taking you away from the stuff you love, please contact me.
