As the dawn of the New Year approaches, I wanted to say - it's ok if you didn't hit your goals this year. It's ok if you didn't even have any goals. And it's totally ok if the goals you had (like me) changed more times than Kim Kardashians wardrobe.
It's ok if in 2022 you didn't nail your social media, post everyday, find your signature font, have a viral reel, do a Tiktok dance, master transitions or grow your following in the thousands.
For most of us '22, was the year we survived not thrived. The year of so called re-emergence, getting used to being with real people in the new (no one knows what the actual rules are) post covid world. The year we wanted to stay home, turn our zoom cameras off (sorry my connection is really bad right now!!) and continue WFM in our active wear, despite our bosses wanting us to don suits and get back to the office (in the name of teamwork and bonding).
For us social media managers, it was the year where love it or hate it we had to embrace video (hello reels) and learn to love Tiktok (no matter our age). We learnt the importance (again) of having a solid strategy for our clients, and of how quickly you need to pivot in this industry to keep abreast of changes. It was also the year we all had a small heart attack everytimewe saw pop up in our feed (what else dude, what else).
So it's ok if you (like me) crawled to the finish line and are soo glad that the year that was 2022 is almost over. We made it!
It's ok if you haven't reflected, journalled or acknowledged your achievements. If you haven't saved all your photos in folders, made a memory book, decluttered your home or crossed things off your bucket list this year.
If all you did this year was show up for yourself and your family, worked a job/ran your business, put food on the table and got some sleep at night, then that IS enough.
So for those of you, like me, that don't have a plan for 2023, a vision board, a power word, or a shiny new journal (to never write in), I wanted to say that I got you friend.
And that there is time. 365 days of it in fact (2023 is not a leap year for anyone wondering). You must certainly don't need to have it all figured out by 1 Jan. (Plus my self says whats the fun in that, there's gotta be some last min pressure to actually get stuff done!)
Whatever you do or don't do* tonight have fun and be kind to yourself.
See you on the other side for more social media tips, advice and digital adventures.
Sam xoxo
ps. For those of you interested my NYE plans (with a 3yr old in tow) are less dancing the night away with Pete Tong in da club and more PJs, jacket potatoes and a good british drama on the sofa (assuming said 3 year old goes and stays asleep after we have read like a thousand books together ).
See you all in 2023 :)
