Gina has worked extensively in front-line business management for over 20 years. Executive and GM roles in the Tourism and Business Development sectors have allowed her to develop a sound knowledge of successful business management practices, including effective marketing and promotion. In 2018, Gina combined her passion for promoting and supporting small business, and established Obsidian Marketi

ng Solutions and ventured into the Digital Marketing Space as a professional Facebook Strategist. Gina honed and developed her organic social media strategies and applied them across the various industries of Obsidian’s client base, managing diverse business pages such as plumbing, electrical, earthmoving, real estate sales, skincare products, concreting, fencing, property management, the legal industry, bookkeeping … even a political campaign! The results have been very successful for her clients and her business continues to grow:
“I felt there was a need for small business to access affordable marketing solutions, that actually WORK. I had heard SO many nasty stories about small businesses being promised lots of things and taken for lots of money by professional marketing people, with very little or no return for the business. I felt there were too many ‘professionals’ in the marketing industry taking shameful advantage of small business owners’ lack of marketing knowledge. Selling them an awesome sales pitch with lots of marketing buzz words, and making lots of unrealistic promises that were simply designed to make the marketing company profit, not support the said small business. I am very familiar with 'bottom lines' and fully understand that small business needs value for money for their marketing investment, not empty promises.”

Along with page management, Gina also conducts small group workshops and provides affordable one-on-one mentoring options for small businesses wanting to manage their own social media. She has successfully helped many, many businesses take control of their own marketing, with a strong focus on brand awareness and long-term organic strategies to build a genuine audience:
“I could see there was a massive gap in the Social Media Marketing Industry, which seems to primarily focus on ‘paid strategies’ (Facebook ads, sponsored posts, Google ad words etc). ORGANIC strategies, however, are an incredibly successful way of building genuine audiences that turn into customers who stick around for the long term. This is crucial for repeat business and on-going referrals needed for long-term sustainability of small local businesses. I identified that there is also a lack of quality education/training available for those businesses wanting to learn the organic strategies. Many ‘social media workshops’ will offer the attendee only enough to get them to sign up for something and seem to serve more as a sales platform for the marketing company, than as a learning opportunity for the attendee.”

Gina has a unique ‘straight-talking’ approach to her marketing that her clients respond well to, and she is very results-focused for her clients’ businesses, so a great outcome is achieved by everyone.

Let’s celebrate ‘Living Your Dream’🫶

I am super proud of this chick for going out on her own to secure a shop for her business 🙌
Previously she had rented rooms in other salons etc … but this time … it’s all hers!

There have been a few ups and downs for her in the last few years … and I am so very excited (and crazy happy) for her right now.

The space is absolutely gorgeous too, with lots more planned.

If you are a lash-and-brow fiend like me, I can totally recommend Di from Envy Aesthetics Ink & Beauty. I particularly love that her lash fans are all hand done … not the ugly one-size-fits-all factory produced clumps that a lot of other techs use.

Congratulations Di, can’t wait to see what’s next for you! Thank you for having my in your new space today, it’s completely awesome!

This quote totally resonates with me. When I first started my business 6 years ago, I had many "competitors" and "competitors of my clients" try and shoot me down and actively attempt to sabotage me and my business.

It affected me in the beginning (more mentally than financially) but I remember it was really s**t.

Over the years, I have managed to catch up face-to-face with most of these people and front them about the crap things they said about me and my business ... and of course been met with shallow denials (as predictable from those of shallow character) ... however I have never forgotten how that made me feel ... and now THEY know, that I know, what they said and did ... despite their denials.

A positive from all of this is that one guy actually did admit he got it wrong (from listening to someone else) and apologised. Subsequently we are very firm friends these days and have a lot of respect for each other. We all get stuff wrong sometimes, but I have found that it is only those with good character that can admit that, and genuinely apologise.

I have learned that it's not IF you make a mistake, it's how you react when you are confronted with that mistake that counts. It's called integrity.

I have also learned that those who are confident in themselves and their own business practices are not the ones who try to pull others down. It's the insecure ones, the ones who are easily threatened by a little competition ... and it's most likely those people will never truly achieve any great success.

Around 5 years ago our professional paths randomly collided and thus began the start of an amazing business relationship and an even more amazing friendship 🫶

It has been completely awesome to watch Merrilea’s business grow from a market side-hustle to a thriving entity!

I’m so proud of this chick! Itchy Scratchy Bitey Balm is now sold all over Australia - online and in over 300 stockist outlets (and counting), has several staff on the books and I have this funny feeling that 2025 is going to be her best year yet!

As some of you know, I had the absolutely amazing experience of living in Darwin for just over 4 years at one stage in my life, and it will always hold a piece of my heart.
