🚨 BREAKING: Police have confirmed a major operation is unfolding as forensic teams and other officers converge on a Ballina property. NSW Police has been asked for more information about the Cherry St situation, which has also drawn firefighters and ambulance paramedics. A police spokesman said he was not able to provide details as the operation was still underway about 3pm. Police have not issued a wider alert or locked down streets at this stage. More to come.

Nine people died in residential fires in 2023 – out of 959 fires in 2022, only 50 per cent of homes had a working smoke alarm. “That inexpensive, small device on the ceiling may mean the difference between you getting out of a fire alive and tragedy,” FRNSW Commissioner, Jeremy Fewtrell, said.
