The Empress 🌍♀️

The Empress is card number three of the major arcana. The Major Arcana cards symbolize major themes and events that shape our lives and who we are as people and also the archetypes of other people that we may meet on our journey. As number 3 in the Major Arcana, the Empress is a symbol of creativity. The Number Three is associated to the holy Trinity, creation and the three dimensions of reality.

The Pomegranates upon her robe are a symbol of fertility and abundance. The Empress is a motherly figure and births creation into the world. She could be a sign of a creative project coming to fruition or a pregnancy. Whatever the news, it is sure to bring abundance and joy 😊

The Empress sits upon a comfortable red couch. This is a symbol of comfort, the type of comfort that comes from the fruits of a successful creation or from the love of children. If we can embody the nurturing characteristics of the Empress in our lives, we will be rewarded in turn.

Further tying the Empress to being a loving and maternal figure is the symbol of Venus prominent throughout the card., both on the couch and on the shield beside. Venus is the planet of love and is tied to the Goddess Venus who was once considered to be the very Earth itself. Just like the Earth, a good motherly figure is calm, loving and nurturing 🪴

Venus also encourages us to get in touch with our softer more feminine side and to create beauty in our lives. Connect to your senses through taste, touch and sound. Take time to experience pleasure and deep fulfillment by exploring these senses... Enjoy the experience of being in a human body.

Upon the head of The Empress is a crown of 12 stars. The 12 stars represent her connection with the natural realm and the cycles of life as there are 12 planets in the solar system and 12 months in a year. There is also a laurel wreath atop her head which symbolizes victory... Hard work that has come (or is coming to) fruition. In one hand, The Empress holds a scepter that symbolizes her sovereignty. She is calm, in control and in full command of her personal power 💪

Rainy Summer Days 🌧️

Oh, what is so pure as the glad summer rain,
That falls on the grass where the sunlight has lain?
And what is so fair as the flowers that lie
All bathed in the tears of the soft summer sky?
The blue of the heavens is dimmed by the rain
That wears away sorrow and washes out pain;
But we know that the flowers we cherish would die
Were it not for the tears of the cloud-laden sky.
The rose is the sweeter when kissed by the rain,
And hearts are the dearer where sorrow has lain;
The sky is the fairer that rain-clouds have swept,
And no eyes are so bright as the eyes that have wept.
Oh, they are so happy, these flowers that die,
They laugh in the sunshine, oh, why cannot I?
They droop in the shadow, they smile in the sun,
Yet they die in the winter when summer is done.
The lily is lovely, and fragrant her breath,
But the beauty she wears is the emblem of death;
The rain is so fair as it falls on the flowers,
But the clouds are the shadows of sunnier hours.

History and Folklore: In Eastern Europe, it was once believed that a young man would fall in love with any woman that he accepted a spring of basil from. It is said that the witches of old drank a cup of basil juice before taking flight on their brooms. In some areas, it was believed that the use of Basil would summon a Basilisk. The Ancient Greeks believed that basil would not grow unless you vilified it while you were planting the seeds! Basil was believed to have purifying qualities and was often used in exorcism rituals. In many cultures, basil was believed to promote love and bring protection 🗡️

Practical Magick: Add to love sachets, incense and perfumes to promote harmony between you and your lover. Use for a love divination by placing two fresh basil leaves atop a live coal. If the leaves remain stationary and burn quickly, the relationship will be harmonious. If the leaves fly apart and crack and pop instead of nicely burning, the relationship may be in for some trouble. To attract wealth, place a basil leaf in your wallet or in the cash register draw at your place of business. Sprinkle basil powder on the floor of your home or around your yard to keep negativity and evil spirits at bay. Burn basil incense during cleansing and purification workings. Keep basil in your pocket during a big night out to avoid getting a bit too inebriated. Give a gift of basil as a housewarming present to a loved one to invite good-luck into their home 🍀
