AUSTRALIA AWES BY AURORA SPECTACLE DURING STRONGEST GEOMAGNETIC STORM IN TWO DECADES
Australia was treated to a spectacular celestial display last night courtesy of the most potent geomagnetic storm in over two decades.
This G5 (Extreme) level event is a rare occurrence, with the last one happening back in October 2003.
Despite geomagnetic conditions in Australia being slightly lower than the global average, equivalent to a G3 (Strong) level, the country still got to revel in the mesmerizing auroras that graced the skies.
These vibrant auroras were visible across much of southern Australia, extending as far north as the Pilbara region in Western Australia.
This powerful geomagnetic storm is predicted to persist through Sunday, promising another night of aurora activity.
For those planning to witness this celestial phenomenon, clear skies away from urban light pollution are essential.
