Two charged over alleged pursuit - Lismore

Two males have been charged following an alleged pursuit at Lismore early this morning.

About 2.15am (Monday 6 January 2025), police were patrolling the Bruxner Highway near Lismore when they attempted to stop a vehicle.

Police will allege that the vehicle was bearing number plates reported stolen from a Queensland address.

When the vehicle allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated, continuing through Goonellabah.

The vehicle came to a stop at Tregeagle and two males – aged 15 and 22 – were arrested and taken to Lismore Police Station.

The man was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, and use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed.

A warrant was also executed for alleged weapon and bail offences.

He was refused bail to appear before Lismore Local Court today (Monday 6 January 2025).

The boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children's court on Friday 28 February 2025.

Fatal single vehicle crash near Kyogle

A man has died following a single-vehicle crash in the state’s Northern Rivers area.

On Monday 30 December 2024, officers attached to Richmond Police District commenced an investigation into the whereabouts of a 49-year-old man from Queensland, who had not made contact with family members since Christmas Day, after visiting a property at Cougal, about 60 kilometres north of Casino.

About 11.00am yesterday (Tuesday 31 December 2024), police located a Ford Ranger 4WD overturned and partially submerged in a creek on Gradys Creek Road at Loadstone.

Police found the body of a man, believed to be that of the 49-year-old, deceased inside the vehicle.

Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner regarding the man’s death.

: A man has died and another has suffered serious injuries after a light plane crash near Yamba.

Emergency services responded to reports at about 11.20am of a recreational aircraft crash on Palmers Island, 8km west of Yamba.

The pilot of the aircraft, a man believed to be aged in his 60s, died at the scene, while the other occupant, believed to be in his 30s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Gold Coast Hospital.

Have you seen Nicholas?

Nicholas, aged 55, was last seen entering bushland on Spur Road, Pillar Valley, approximately 30km south east of Grafton, about 1am on Friday 13 December 2024, after his vehicle became stuck.

When he was unable to be located or contacted, officers attached to Coffs Clarence Police District were notified today (Friday 20 December 2024) and commenced inquiries into his whereabouts.

He was last seen wearing a black pants, a jacket and thongs.

Anyone with information into Nicholas’ whereabouts is urged to call Coffs-Clarence Police District or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A cyclist has died, and a number of people have been injured following a crash in Armidale this afternoon.

About 3.30pm (Saturday 14 December 2024), emergency services were called to Long Swamp Road, Armidale, following reports a car and several cyclists had collided, before the car continued and hit a tree.

One of the cyclists died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

Three other cyclists have been injured and are being treated at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was trapped and released shortly following the arrival of emergency services. She is also being treated at the scene.

The conditions of all those injured are unknown.

Officers from New England Police District have established a crime scene, which will be examined by officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Long Swamp Road, near the intersection of Edwards Road, remains closed and is not expected to reopen until tomorrow (Sunday 15 December 2024).

As investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue, police are urging any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact local police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Critical incident declared after man shot – Grafton

A critical incident investigation is underway after a man was shot by police in the states far north coast this morning.

About 6.30am (Wednesday 11 December 2024), officers attached to the Coffs/ Clarence Police District were called to a park on Ryan Street, Grafton, responding to reports of a concern for welfare.

On arrival, police located and attempted to engage with a man.

The man allegedly approached police and threatened them with a knife before he was shot by police.

The officers immediately rendered first aid until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The man was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable but serious condition.

The police officers were not physically injured.

A critical incident team from Richmond Police District will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation is also subject to an independent review.

Man dies following alleged Tweed Heads assault

A man has died following an alleged assault in the state’s north this morning.

About 3:15am today (Sunday 24 November 2024), emergency services were called to William Street, Tweed Heads South, following reports of an assault.

Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District attended and found an unconscious man, believed to be aged in his 30s, laying on the ground outside a home.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man; however, he died at the scene.

The man is yet to be formally identified.

Police have established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

As investigations continue police are urging anyone with information into the incident to contact Tweed Heads Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Investigation commenced into stabbing of Casino woman

Police have commenced an investigation into the stabbing of Casino woman yesterday.

About 2.50am yesterday (Saturday 24 November 2024), police were called to a home on Boronia Crescent, Casino, following reports of a stabbing.

Officers attached to Richmond Police District arrived and were told a group of unknown teenage boys had been making threats to residents in a home.

During the incident two women have exited the home to confront the boys; however, after leaving the home one of the women, aged 33, was stabbed in the hand by one of the teens.

The teens then left the scene before police arrived.

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a stable condition.

Police have established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

As investigations continue, police are urging anyone with CCTV, dashcam vision or information into the incident to contact Casino Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police are appealing for information following an attempted robbery which left a man seriously injured at Casino early this morning.



About 3.30am (Friday 8 November 2024), a man was in a parked vehicle at Crawford Square, Casino, when he was awoken by an unknown man who demanded his mobile phone and a motorbike, which was attached to the vehicle.



A struggle ensued and the man who was in the vehicle sustained wounds to his arm, chest and back. The unknown man fled the scene a short time later empty handed.



A member of the public who was nearby drove the injured man, aged 26, to Casino Hospital where he is being treated for suspected non-life-threatening injuries.



Police were subsequently notified by the hospital and immediately commenced inquiries into the incident.



A crime scene was established by officers attached to Richmond Police District, which will be forensically examined.



As inquiries into the incident continue, police urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY FOLLOWING FIRE - BALLINA

An investigation is underway following a fire at business in Ballina earlier this morning.

About 3.30am (Wednesday 23 October 2024), emergency services were called to River Street, Ballina, following reports of a building fire.

On arrival, officers attached to Richmond Police District located a silver Mercedes sedan inside a shopfront, well alight.

Police were told the sedan drove into the business before the vehicle caught fire, with the occupants of the vehicle leaving the scene prior to police arrival.

FRNSW firefighters attended and extinguished the blaze; however, the building was extensively damaged.

Surrounding units were evacuated and two other vehicles were damaged by the blaze.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the incident has commenced.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information or footage in relation to the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
