Council celebrated National Tree Day by planting 200 trees over the coming weeks at Mullers Lagoon in Bowen (complete), the new pump track at Collinsville and the new and old cemeteries in Proserpine.
National Tree Day is the perfect opportunity to enhance the beautiful environment and support local wildlife.

Happy National Tree Day!

Today is the perfect opportunity to enhance our beautiful environment, support local wildlife, and ensure our region remains a wonderful place to live. Spending time outdoors offers countless benefits for both our health and our community.

To celebrate, the Council’s Parks and Gardens team will be planting 200 trees over the coming weeks at three key locations across the region:

- Mullers Lagoon in Bowen (complete)
- Around the new pump track at Collinsville
- Along the roadways at both the new and old cemeteries in Proserpine

Why not plant a tree in your backyard and contribute to our community's green spaces? By participating, you’ll be helping to create a healthier, greener environment for all.

ON THIS DAY – July 26, 1984

New Electoral Boundaries
The member for Dawson Mr Ray Braithwaite said that the new Dawson Electoral boundaries were based on the sugar and tourism industries, and the electorate now has an area of 29,475 square miles.

Fund Raising
Money collected in the annual Red Shield Appeal was a little down on last year’s takings, but it is hoped to raise $4,200. Chairman Mr J Rigby invited all of the collectors and their wives to a midday barbeque at the Mill House.
Local ladies baked yummy cakes and biscuits for the cake stall, held each week at the Saturday Flea Markets to raise money for the Bush Children.

Happenings at the Cultural Hall
Mr Bill Raymond, the new manager, felt that the Hall would have many uses, not just as a theatre but also for balls, weddings, special birthday parties and meetings. He had been involved in live theatre in other areas, so was happy to hear that there was an active group here. The Live Theatre group is presenting three plays quite soon.

Cannonvale State School Choir will present ‘Singing Spectacular’, featuring songs from several musicals. Directors, Mesdames Karina Shim and Elspeth Scotford, and all choir members, have been working hard to ensure a special treat for audiences.

Medal won at the Paraplegic Games
Mr Alan Dufty won a silver medal in the 1984 Paraplegic Games, in England, in the 200-metre track event. A sterling effort against the world’s best.

ESA Alpha Phi’s July activities
The July social was held at the home of Betty Hughes. Betty spoke on scone making and demonstrated the finer points. The scones, when baked, were served for morning tea.

A busy bee was held at Pat Carrington’s home, cleaning windows, floors, carpets etc. Proceeds went to the Chapter. Pat and Hope Stevens served a delicious morning tea and lunch. All went home tired but happy.

Scout Camp
Fifteen boys enjoyed camping alongside the dry Proserpine River, at Crystalbrook. A hike to the gorge was great fun.

SPORTS
The annual Tinny Derby is being held at Earlando, with any boat over two horsepower qualifying for entry.

Whitsunday Archery: Last Sunday’s Melbourne shoot saw Glen Gough, the club’s most successful archer, win with 750 points. Michael Jameljamenko is shooting with a new bow.

Cougars basketball team were honoured as men’s premiers, for this season, at the association’s presentation night.

Have your say! There are five days left to submit your opinion about Cannonvale’s Waite Creek Park footpaths and bollards. Consultation closes this Sunday, July 28. Details below.

Reminder to Whitsunday residents! Our Waite Creek Park footpaths and bollards consultation closes this Sunday, 28 July.

Council has identified approximately 1,000m of potential footpath connections to improve our pathway network, to be considered incrementally in future Council budgets.

Bollards are also being proposed in three sections in Cannonvale’s Waite Creek Park to limit vehicle access in response to local resident concerns about vehicle damage through the park network.

Provide your feedback on footpath priorities and proposed bollards via a hard copy survey at Council’s Customer Service Centres or complete the survey on our Your Say Whitsunday Online Engagement Portal – https://bit.ly/WaiteCreekPark
