2XX is a not-for-profit radio station that gives a voice to the Canberra community. Founded in 1976 on the ANU campus and now broadcast from our premises in Civic, 2XX produces between 8 and 12 hours of local programming every day. That is content originating at our station, produced and presented by members of our local community. You can expect to hear everything from programs covering genre-spe

cific music, talk-based programs covering politics, environmental issues, q***r issues, science, conflict resolution, mental health and film, along with multicultural shows presented in a range of community languages.

2XX serves a diverse range of interest groups in the ACT by providing a range of vital information and entertainment services which are not available from public or commercial broadcasters. Over 50,000 Canberrans listen to community radio every week. We can't claim them all, but we do know our listeners hail from almost every age group, ethnic background and interest group imaginable. Nurgul is a Uyghur community leader based in Canberra. Nurgul campaigns for Uyghurs to promote and advocate for the human rights and democratic freedoms for the Uyghurs and other Turkic people in East Turkistan (referred to in China as “Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region”).

She has mobilizes individuals and the international community to build bridges to take action on behalf of and to raise public awareness of the Uyghur issue with a special focus on Uyghur women and youth, and to activate persons and entities to work together to stop the systematic human rights abuses against the people of East Turkistan.

Michael is currently Acting Head of Department Foundation Skills Pathways College Canberra Institute of Technology and has been part of WorldSkills since 2009 when he was asked to judge regionals in the ACT. He has continued to be an ACT Judge and has become a Mentor.

He enjoyed the experience of being part of WorldSkills so much, that he became Team Leader for the 2014 and 2016 Nationals where one of the CIT student won gold.

He continues to mentor CIT students, helping them to become exception landscapers that are ready to take on the world’s best.

Tasneem is passionate about female representation, especially Women of Colour (WoC) representation for which she was recently appointed Women of Colour Australia (WoCA) Ambassador.

Tom has been actively volunteering across multiple organisations in the Canberra community for the last 17 years including but not limited to Ronald McDonald House ACT & Southeast NSW, Lifeline bookfair, Red Cross Bloodbank and Lanyon Homestead. As the Red Cross Bloodbank donor over the last 5 years, Tom has provided over 325 blood donations.

GUS SABOTINO – 2024 WINNER COMMUNITY SUPPORT AWARD (12.30 pm)

Gus is a Deputy Team Leader at the Woden State Emergency Service Unit. He is passionate about his volunteering and has taken a special interest in ensuring that his teammates are physically prepared for the arduous work of emergency storm response. He is one of the driving forces behind the implementation of a national fitness program which is being rolled out to SES volunteers all around Australia.
