🥵 Hot weather is on the way for the ACT over coming days, with temperatures up to 39°C forecast on Monday.

This period of heat will be the ACT's warmest weather since Summer 2019/20, triggering a severe heatwave classification.

Thankfully, due to recent rainfall, the fire danger isn't likely to be elevated.

A heatwave occurs when both daytime and overnight temperatures are above average. When classifying the severity of a heatwave, the Bureau of Meteorology also takes into consideration recent conditions as a measure of how well adapted people in that location may be.

‼️ Although many people think 'it's just a regular summer heatwave', extreme heat is the deadliest natural disaster in Australia. It's important to be prepared, especially if you are in a higher risk group.

⛈️ Severe Thunderstorms are possible in the ACT tomorrow.

ℹ️ A low-pressure system over eastern Australia is likely to cause severe thunderstorms to develop to the west of the ACT tomorrow, moving into our region in the afternoon and evening.

⚡ A line of storms is likely to develop to our west in the early afternoon, impacting Canberra between 16:00 and 21:00. There is the chance that these storms could be severe, with damaging winds and locally heavy falls the highest risk.

However, it's quite possible that Canberra will be sheltered from these storms as they have to make it across the ranges.

⚠️ Please keep an eye out for any warnings tomorrow, be alert, not alarmed.

❄️ Snow is possible this coming week, with a strong low-pressure system driving winter weather across eastern Australia.

At this stage, the snow level is looking likely to fall to between 800m and 900m on Monday. Accumulations between 1cm to 5cm are possible across the mountains, with some locally higher accumulations to 10cm. There is a very small chance that we could see some lower snow levels, but this is unclear at the moment.

Tuesday should see some more snowfall, but the snow level may rise to 900m to 1000m.

This forecast is extremely uncertain, there is pretty much no agreement between different forecast models. There are likely to be some changes to the forecast over the coming days so keep your eye on the situation.

🥶 It's shaping up to be a cold week in the ACT, with frosty mornings and some possible snowfall late in the week.

🌡️ Temperatures are likely to be in the negatives every morning this week, with maximums staying between 8°C to 14°C.

❄️ On Thursday a cold front is likely to impact the region, bringing showers and possible snowfall to the region. There is still a bit of uncertainty regarding the potential for snow but, at this stage, we can expect 2cm to 8cm above 1000m, with flurries possibly falling to 750m.

Make sure to rug up this week, and hopefully, we might be able to get the first proper snowfall of the year in the Brindabellas.

☀️ Stable and settled weather is forecast across this week in the ACT.

Under the influence of a slow-moving high-pressure system, we are set to see fine days with above-average maximum temperatures in the mid to high teens. Nights should be cooler, with the chance of some frost and fog throughout the week.

At this stage, no rainfall is forecast across the next seven days.

Minimal rainfall is likely, although there are some indications that wet weather could impact the region on Sunday. Maximum temperatures are likely to be average to above average for this time of year, whilst minimum temperatures are likely to be roughly average.

Enjoy the settled and cooler weather, it seems like it will stick around for a little bit longer.

🌦️ This week in the ACT, generally fine conditions are forecast with just the slight chance of a shower on Tuesday. Temperatures are likely to be below average.

However, moving into the weekend, there is significant uncertainty surrounding the forecast, with the chance a significant weather system may develop and bring rain and wind to the region - but it is currently too early to forecast this with confidence.

☀️ Fine weather is forecast for much of, if not all of this week. Almost no rainfall is expected throughout the week. Temperatures should remain near average, possibly a bit above average for this time of year.

Overall, there is really not much to note about the weather this week, so enjoy this beautiful autumn weather!

🌧️ Following a very wet weekend, this week is looking more settled. The main weather feature is a cold front moving through on Tuesday, bringing showers and much colder temperatures. Overall, 2mm to 10mm of rain is possible this week, mainly on Tuesday.

❄️ There is a slight chance of a very small dusting of snow about the highest peaks of the ACT early on Wednesday morning.

🌧️ After some drizzle throughout the day today, rain is beginning to set in this evening. This should get heavier over the coming hours.

Overnight tonight and into Saturday morning, we can expect persistent rain, heavy at times. This is likely to bring between 20mm to 80mm of rain to the ACT over the next 24 hours.

⛈️ Additionally, from early tomorrow morning thunderstorms will be possible, with the chance of severe thunderstorms bringing localised flash flooding to some parts of the ACT. There could also be localised damaging wind gusts in some storms.

⚠️ BOM has issued a Severe Weather Warning for parts of the region, this does not include Canberra. There is also a flood watch current for the Molongo and Queanbeyan rivers, with minor flooding possible.

This is a dynamic situation so please stay up to date with forecasts and warnings. Thankfully the ACT isn't likely to see the worst of this weather, but unfortunately, this means that parts of NSW and QLD are seeing major impacts.

🌧️ There is still some uncertainty in the positioning of this system and there is still a risk Canberra could see some heavy rain overnight Friday, into Saturday morning.

Stay up to date with forecasts and warnings over the coming days.

Time to begin getting ready for what could be a wet couple of days around the ACT.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for parts of the ACT for heavy rain and possibly damaging winds. Conditions are expected to deteriorate in the ACT from tomorrow and continue through Saturday. View the warning - http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN21037.shtml

The advice for the ACT is part of a broader BOM warning covering a large area of NSW. Because of the size of the system the warning and forecasts are likely to change regularly over the next couple of days, so we strongly recommend keeping a watch for updates or changes here http://www.bom.gov.au/act/.

Now is the time to get ready, the ACT State Emergency Service recommends you:

🌩️ Clean your gutters of debris;
💧 Check that street drains near your home are clear & call TCCS if they are blocked;
🪵 Trim overhanging trees and branches;
🏡 Do a general clean-up around the home and backyard;
⛔️ Take care while driving, and never ride, walk or drive through a flash flood.

If you need support during storms and floods call the ACT State Emergency Service on 132 500.

In a life-threatening emergency call Triple-Zero (000).

🌦️ This week in the ACT, the weather is looking more unsettled, with a change to the dry and stable pattern we have seen over recent weeks.

🌧️ A cold front moving through southern Australia is likely to bring showers to our region overnight tonight, with 2mm to 10mm possible. Some stronger wind gusts are possible about elevated terrain but should remain below severe weather warning thresholds.

🌀 From Friday onwards, modelling is currently showing that an east coast low may develop and bring rain and strong winds to the southeast. There is high uncertainty regarding this system, so keep updated with the latest forecasts over the coming days.

🌡️ Whilst temperatures are likely to be above average today, maximum temperatures are trending below average over the rest of the week, with minimum temperatures staying average to above average.

As we are moving into the cooler months, the heatwave forecast on the weekly outlook is now being replaced with a snowfall forecast. Hopefully we'll see some of this winter weather showing up very soon.

☀️ Fine weather is likely to dominate the forecast this week, with warm temperatures and minimal rainfall expected.

Days should stay in the mid to high twenties, with mornings in the single digits at the start of the week, moving into the low teens by the weekend.

There are some signs this week could be the last warm burst before Autumn really kicks in, but that is uncertain at this stage.
