⛈️ The line of storms has now moved through Canberra, bringing strong winds, lots of lightning and large amounts of small hailstones.
This video of the small hail was captured in Gungahlin by Sarati Shrestha. Video not for media use, licensing available via Severe Weather Australia.

❄️ Snow is coming down heavy in the Brindabellas this afternoon! At least 3cm has fallen at Bulls Head, with snow settling to 850m.
Rain is clearing our region, but lingering showers could bring a little bit more snow before clearing completely overnight.

🌨️ Driving through Picadilly Circus this afternoon, lots of snow with more coming down!
There's been snow reported all over our region this afternoon. For those of you holding out hope Canberra will see some flurries, it's unlikely to occur unless this rain sits over us for longer.
❄️ What an amazing snowfall, especially for May! We've had 5cm of snow in the Brindabellas, with more coming down.
Snow is now starting to fall over the hills in Canberra this afternoon, with the suburbs only a few degrees above 0.

⛈️ Check out the radar view as the storm hit Canberra this afternoon. It really intensified as it moved over the city. Pay close attention to the Canberra Airport rain gauge and watch how quickly it jumps up.
BOM definitely should have had a warning out for this cell.
🌊 Rivers and creeks around the ACT are on the rise, with some roads now closed due to flooding.
This was Swamp Creek in the Murrumbidgee river corridor, which has flooded over Fairlight Road.
Uriarra Crossing is also about to be closed, with water starting to flood over the road.
⛔ If you encounter floodwater, please do not enter it, even if you think you can do so safely.
☃️ Normally skiing is something you would associate with Thredbo, but yesterday there was enough snow in Royalla to ski on!
Allison from Royalla and her daughter were lucky enough to get out and have some fun in the snow while it was falling and sent this video to the page.
☃️ Checkout the snow that has fallen along Burra Road to the East of the ACT!
This area is at a higher elevation than Canberra, so it got cold enough for a decent amount of snow to accumulate
🔥 Fire danger ratings are changing across the country from the 1st September.
The new system is being developed using newer science and will be more accurate. The new Fire Danger Ratings have four levels (instead of six) – Moderate, High, Extreme and Catastrophic.
🟩 Moderate
Plan and prepare.
Stay up to date and be ready to act if there is a fire.
🟨 High
Be ready to act.
There’s a heightened risk. Be alert for fires in your area.
Decide what you will do if a fire starts.
If a fire starts, your life and property may be at risk. The safest option is to avoid bush fire risk areas.
🟧 Extreme
Take action now to protect your life and property.
These are dangerous fire conditions.
Check your bush fire plan and ensure that your property is fire ready.
If a fire starts, take immediate action. If you and your property are not prepared to the highest level, go to a safer location well before the fire impacts.
Reconsider travel through bush fire risk areas.
🟥 Catastrophic
For your survival leave bush fire risk areas.
These are the most dangerous conditions for a fire.
Your life may depend on the decisions you make, even before there is a fire.
Stay safe by going to a safer location early in the morning or the night before.
Homes cannot withstand fires in these conditions.
You may not be able to leave, and help may not be available.
When there is minimal risk, Fire Danger Rating signs will be set to ‘NO RATING’. This is the white wedge sitting under Moderate.

🌊 Floodways are very full across Canberra this morning, with 50mm+ of rain over the past 12 hours causing most waterways to fill up
Make sure you stay clear of floodways, creeks and rivers today, as fast flowing water can easily sweep you away.
