Cairns Tropical Writers' Festival

Cairns Tropical Writers' Festival www.ctwf.com.au CTWF2023 will be held over the weekend of 24-26 Feb 2023

The Cairns Tropical Writers' Festival is the heart of literature in the tropics.

It brings together stories and storytellers from across the region, the country and the world, to inspire us and feed our literary minds. For national and international visitors, is a cultural experience that allows them to touch the inspirational heart of the region in an environment of immense natural beauty where two World Heritage areas meet – the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics R

ainforest. With such a rich, tropical backdrop, it’s no surprise that the Festival continues to gain national and international appeal, allowing us to showcase the distinctive voices of our tropical region.

2018 demonstrated unprecedented growth and marked our tenth year since the Festival was established. After multiple postponements due to COVID-19, the Festival is coming back, bigger and better in 2023.

will be a gathering of our regional community of readers, writers, and thinkers, as well as local, national, and internationally revered authors and celebrities, experts across all fields of writing and publishing. Public Arenas and exciting workshop programs are designed to ensure there is something for anyone who loves a good story. The blend is irresistible, stamping an indelible sense of place on visitors, and the communities involved.

Hello friends of

It is with a very heavy heart I must advise that the 2025 Cairns Tropical Writers Festival has been postponed.

Sadly, and despite the vigorous and dedicated efforts of my volunteer committee, adequate funding required to successfully deliver the 2025 event was not secured.
We are equally devastated and frustrated.

Our sincere thanks go to the Cairns Regional Council and Cairns RSL Club for their financial support.
Steadfast in our belief in the importance of storytelling, we are committed to delivering the next Festival, tentatively scheduled for March 2026.

Please stay tuned to our channels for further updates on .

Cheers, Jules Steer
President & Festival Director

Banning books, waving flags and persecuting racial minorities. Sound familiar?

After New York Times–bestselling novel Little Fires Everywhere – which was adapted into a popular miniseries starring Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon – comes a similarly moving tale about the unbreakable bond between a mother and son.

Celeste Ng’s third novel, Our Missing Hearts, is set in a marginally more dystopian version of Trump’s America and follows Bird, a young boy searching for his politically dissident mother, and Margaret, a poet striving to change the world for her son.

Sit down with Celeste and host Claire Nichols to discuss hope in the face of isolation and cynicism, the redemptive power of storytelling, and the capacity for art to create meaningful change.
