If a trip to Westfield Helensvale has you longing for a matcha and strawberry latte, then you're my kind of girl. There's something about shopping that really makes me hungry.
Not far from Coles and ALDI towards the northern end of Westfield, Annie's Coffee House has lots of food and drink options that appeal to hungry diners. Eliza and Jamie have owned the store for three years. Their latest menu of stacked bagels, donuts, croissants, coffee, matcha and cold drinks hits the spot.
We enjoyed a brunch of Catch of the day bagel, plump full of smoked salmon, dill cream cheese, red onion and capers, as well as a ham and cheese croissant accompanied by an iced matcha and strawberry latte and coffee. It's a treat to brunch there, enjoy what you love and cram two meals into one - that's what weekends are for!
Yes, @anniescoffeehouse is open on Sundays too!
Pretty, friendly and delicious, this is affordable food at its best! Pop on in for a dose of deliciousness 😋.

Traditional bakeries are well loved by the Gold Coast. So, when news broke that the esteemed Banjo's Bakery was opening at Helensvale as a drive through, our excitement was palpable.
Quality, tradition and community are the hallmarks of the Banjo's brand, which is best known for their hand-crafted baked goods.
Famous for their pies, with fillings such as Tasmanian Curried Scallop, Chicken Parmigiana, and Double Cheeseburger pies, as well as their loaded donuts, Banjo's began as a small store in Launceston almost 40 years ago, growing to about 50 stores today.
You'll find something for all the family at Banjo's, the all Aussie bakery.

Are you a pizza lover? Then how about having restaurant quality pizza whenever you wanted it within 10 minutes?
@ammazza__pizza was launched this month by the former owners (Maki and Michael) of Gallura Italian Restaurant, Tweed. It's a freezer to table pizza that will blow your socks off. We were invited to their factory this week to check out the process and to taste their pizza. What an awesome product!
Firstly, I voiced my disappointment that Gallura was closed. But then when I saw Ammazza Pizza, I was stunned. This is absolutely fantastic, made by hand from top quality ingredients - Byron Bay Mozzarella Co, Salami Australia, local Tweed pesto, handmade sauces...
There are five varieties of Ammazza pizza, pre-cooked in an Italian oven, snap frozen and packed ready for purchase.
At home, simply bake the frozen pizza at 200 degrees fan forced for 10 minutes and your amazing pizza will be ready to serve.
Unexpected guests? No problem.
Kids party? No problem.
Sleepover? No problem.
Friday night drinks? You guessed...@ammazza__pizza
solves your food worries and pizza fetish. It's a game changer. You'll find stockists as a highlight on @ammazza__pizza Instagram page. Yum!

Weekends at @kemuri_kitchen just got better with the introduction of yakitori skewers to the dinner menu. We love a grazing meal where we share and taste different dishes and Kemuri is perfect for that. Our family gathers around the table and orders dishes in turn until we have enough. Wagyu, free-range chicken and pork wrapped Enoki skewers sit alongside a main menu of tempura Moreton Bay Bug Bao, angel wing gyoza and other delicacies. Then it's time to relax.
Hiro is a well known sommelier and his wine selection is exquisite. Or try his house-made umeshi for a real treat. Be sure to ask for drink recommendations to top off your meal.

Tequila Tromba is having a Paloma Month, so we went to Fig + Frankie's to try them.
A cocktail made from tequila, lime juice and grapefruit soda, a Paloma carried the perfect balance between sweet and sour. It's one of Mexico's most popular cocktails although it's less well known in Australia.
Fig + Frankie's make their own grapefruit soda mix and it's delicious. Try it alongside a charcuterie platter or even, as we did, for afternoon tea with dessert.

TABOULI SALAD WITH BUSH MINT LAMB
1/3 cup fine white burgul
2 tomatoes finely chopped (or use cherry tomatoes)
1 Lebanese cucumber, finely chopped
1 cup parsley, finely chopped
1/4 cup mint, finely chopped
2 green onions, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
Juice of half a lemon
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
270g - 300g lamb leg steak or back strap (100g per person)
1 packet McCormick Native Bush Mint BBQ rub
..
1. Soak the burgul in water for 5-7 minutes until tender. Drain very well, squeezing the water out by hand. Set aside.
2. Wash vegetables and herbs, dry in a clean tea towel, remove stems and chop finely.
3. Combine herbs, vegetables and green onions in a mixing bowl. Remove any juices.
4. Rub 2/3 spice mix into the lamb. Set aside.
5. Add the drained burgul to the salad, together with the salt and the remaining Bush Mint spice. Mix gently.
6. Add the lemon juice and olive oil and mix again.
7. Cover the tabouli and place in the refrigerator while you BBQ the lamb.
8. Allow lamb to rest a few minutes after cooking, then slice and arrange on top of the salad. Serve with flatbread, roasted red peppers, hummus, baba ganoush and yogurt.
.
Notes: You could substitute brown rice, risoni or quinoa (gluten-free) for the burgul. Chopped olives are also great in the salad. Enjoy!

We saw sushi trains in Japan with both a rail train and a bullet train but Sushi Jiro at Pacific Fair is the first we've seen in Australia. At @simplysushijiro the bullet train delivers orders, ours a sushi taco. It's a novel concept sure to get plenty of attention from the kids.
As for the rest of the venue, it's huge, so it relies on turnover for freshness of the product.
Priced on the higher end of sushi, it's still worth a look for the bullet train alone. You'll find it in Pacific Fair's food hall.

You know that ravioli that we all love? Those tender parcels filled with spinach and ricotta? They're not as difficult to make as you'd think. All you need is a few crucial tips; a few pointers to help you make them so you can serve fresh and delicious pasta to the ones you love.
We attended a cooking class with Anna and Sara of @originsitaliancookingclasses to learn more about Italian food. Held in their home near Beenleigh, the class was special because the ladies are so passionate about food that we fell in love with Italy all over again. They demonstrated each step and then it was our turn to make our own pasta. Of course we ate it and brought plenty of extra ravioli home. What a delight!

Pop's Milk Bar brightens up Southport Park with its 60s-inspired music and menu, taking us back to a simpler way of life. Like milk bars of old, milkshakes, thickshakes and spiders form the core of the drinks menu, with burgers and waffles filling up our tummies.
Who can remember Spaghetti 'O' or ham, cheese and tomato waffles, and schnitty burgers served with a handful of potato gems? My favourite dish on our visit was the luxe creme brulee crispy waffles served with delicious gelato, and the milk bar's chosen brew - St Ali coffee.
Like the 60s, everything is made by hand, the patties from Bangalow beef, the gelato in the cabinet and there are two and a half scoops of gelato in every shake!
For decadence you can afford and memories that are irreplaceable, pop into @popsmilkbar for a treat.
Want to know more about coffee? Then why not attend a masterclass? Held by @elkespresso in conjunction with @parallel_roasters at this masterclass you will learn more about different blends and identifying the blend you love, the fine art of filtering a cup of coffee and more. For $20 you can join this class next Wednesday 21 August at either 3.30pm or 5pm.
Tickets are available through Eventbrite. (Link in our story.)
