"Francis Ford Coppola’s latest movie, the sci-fi-tinged Megalopolis, has descended into chaos, according to multiple sources. The movie, currently halfway through shooting in Atlanta, has in the last week lost key creative talent including its production designer and supervising art director. That’s on top of losing the entire visual effects team in the first part of December."

So it's a standard Coppola production then?

The filmmaker is halfway through the movie in Atlanta, with one source describing the set as "absolute madness."

"At its core, a trailer is an advertisement designed to sell a movie by providing consumers with a preview of the movie”

This is how the judge hearing the class action suit dismissed Universal's claims that a movie trailer is "protected free speech". The defence's claim that trailers are a separate “artistic, expressive work” is ridiculous, because that's obviously not the primary purpose of creating a movie trailer. There is a reasonable expectation that a movie trailer is a representation of the final film... even if they cherry pick the best bits.

So while the idea of suing the studio because Ana de Armas was in the trailer for "Yesterday" but not in the movie seems insane (and claiming $5M in damages IS insane), it may be useful for establishing what consumers legally have the right to expect from movie advertising. Though, as one commenter pointed out, it may just result in a disclaimer on all trailers: e.g. "Content in this trailer may not appear in the completed film."

Yesterday, Universal’s troubles suddenly weren’t so far away, at least when it comes to Ana de Armas’ absence from the 2019 Danny Boyle-directed flick Yesterday. “Universal is cor…

In 1952, the Sight and Sound team had the novel idea of asking critics to name the greatest films of all time. The tradition became decennial, increasing in size and prestige as the decades passed. The Sight and Sound poll is now a major bellwether of critical opinion on cinema and this year’s edi...

It's the start of awards season, with the Gotham Awards timed to coincide with the rush to get award-hopefuls into cinemas before the end of the year.

They picked "Everything Everywhere All At Once" as Best Feature, which could be the start of a run. While I'm sure it will pick up a bunch more trophies in the next few months, it'll be interesting to see how it goes with the top awards. On the one hand it's a bit too weird for the mainstream awards, but it's also a bit too popular for the arthouse awards.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once,” a multiverse-spanning adventure, scored at the 32nd annual Gotham Awards, capturing the prize for best feature. It also nabbed a best supporting per…
